Managing a conflict of interest

Information icon Hello, Ciaran.debuitlear. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Draft:GardeningWell, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. I am the founder of GardeningWell. This is my first contribution to Wikipedia and I never intended to hide my conflict of interest. I believe have created the contribution in a neutral tone. I believe that my biodiversity and community gardening initiative is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia on it's own merits and wish to submit it for an independent review... This is a not for profit initiative. In fact truth to be told it costs me a fortune to keep this going!  :-)
Regards,
Ciaran Ciaran.debuitlear (talk) 12:16, 10 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
There is one link to the main website as an external reference - I think this is appropriate (but of course I can stand corrected on that)... Ciaran.debuitlear (talk) 12:18, 10 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
A link to a website is not a "reference". Please re-read the COI guidelines and place the appropriate notices, starting with your user page. I assure you that the draft you submitted initially was not in a neutral tone. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 14:01, 10 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

As I do not have access to an editor (or a budget :-) ) I used copliot to help me draft the text in order to keep the tone neutral and independent of myself. I think the initiative is notable especially due to the appearance on nationwide (national TV in Ireland) and an article about us in the Irish Independent (Broadsheet national media), Also because of our work on the ground and in schools locally here and social on media with following of approximately 125,000.
I am happy to rewrite any or all of the text and/or take specific suggestions relating to this.
Regards,
Ciaran.

Please have a another look. I have edited this text by hand. If the citations or template are wrong then I need to know what is actually wrong. I even checked the text via several AI checkers just ion case I mistakenly sound like an AI. If you tell me what is wrong I can take this to my sandbox and fix it. That's what I should do, right? Draft:GardeningWell Ciaran.debuitlear (talk) 17:56, 10 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
You say "...checked the text via several AI checkers" that is EXACTLY the problem STOP using AI period, it produces malformed content, it is not your friend, it is not helpful and it wastes everybody's time clearing up the mess it makes. Theroadislong (talk) 18:03, 10 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
I explained earlier why I used AI on my first drafts...Sorry about this - I thought it might be the right way to go about this, Based on your advice I COMPLETELY have stopped using AI. I just used an AI checker because you are saying I am using AI and I wanted to know why you think that. I am now editing by hand and any errors are relics from earlier..,. I really want to fix these. . Ciaran.debuitlear (talk) 18:17, 10 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
the problems are with the submission template, which AI mall-forms. Theroadislong (talk) 18:44, 10 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you I will try and fix that even if I have to write the whole thing by hand again. ~2025-32274-94 (talk) 19:31, 10 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Your submission at Articles for creation: GardeningWell (November 11)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Pythoncoder was:
Your draft shows signs of having been generated by a large language model, such as ChatGPT. Their outputs usually have multiple issues that prevent them from meeting our guidelines on writing articles. These include:
Please address these issues. The best way is usually to read reliable sources and summarize them, instead of using a large language model. See our help page on large language models.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

Hi, Based on your comment you must be unaware of the nature of this initiative. I am sorry if this is not clear from the article but in many ways my hands are tied there. There are a lot of rules as you know :-) . I work a day job as an IT professional. I am the main DB guy at FINEOS corp. This pays the rent quite adequately. GardeningWell is a _not_for_profit_ grass roots initative to promote wildlife gardening and other related topics. It is not a business and we do not sell anything. It has been considered noteworthy for a number of reasons by National TV and newspapers. We have lead community based climate action projects and created an both online and real world outdoor classroom. We give away resources relating to wildlife gardening on our website and offer free advice and inspiration on our social media. We have a following of 125,000 + people on social media and this was all started by my family from our front room in Rural Ireland. Ciaran.debuitlear (talk) 19:39, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
It's possible to promote something, even if that thing is not for profit. That being said, please be aware that as someone involved with the organization, you are likely to be considered to have a conflict of interest regardless of your intentions in writing the article, which carries it with it certain guidelines and responsibilities. Happy editing! Anerdw (talk) 19:45, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
You are the founder of the GardeningWell initiative, you are promoting it. Theroadislong (talk) 19:47, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
