Welcome!

edit

Hi Bersot12! I noticed your contributions and wanted to welcome you to the Wikipedia community. I hope you like it here and decide to stay.

I've noticed that you've expressed an interest in the Arab–Israeli conflict. Unfortunately, due to a history of conflict and disruptive editing it has been designated a contentious topic and is subject to some strict rules.

The rule that affects you most as a new or IP editor is the prohibition on making any edit related to the Arab–Israel conflict, which includes discussing articles on talk pages, unless you are logged into an account that is at least 30 days old and has made at least 500 edits.

This prohibition is broadly construed, so it includes edits such as adding the reaction of a public figure concerning the conflict to their article or noting the position of a company or organization as it relates to the conflict.

The exception to this rule is that you may request a specific change to an article on the talk page of that article or at this page. Please ensure that your requested edit complies with our neutral point of view and reliable sourcing policies, and if the edit is about a living person our policies on biographies of living people as well.

Any edits you make contrary to these rules are likely to be reverted, and repeated violations can lead to you being blocked from editing.

Introduction to contentious topics

edit

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Additionally, you must be logged in, have 500 edits, and have an account age of 30 days, and you are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on any page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

To enforce an arbitration decision, and for violating WP:ECR after multiple warnings, you have been blocked from editing Wikipedia for a period of 1 week. You are welcome to edit once the block expires; however, please note that the repetition of similar behavior may result in a longer block or other sanctions.

If you believe this block is unjustified, please read the guide to appealing blocks (specifically this section) before appealing. Place the following on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Please copy my appeal to the [[WP:AE|arbitration enforcement noticeboard]] or [[WP:AN|administrators' noticeboard]]. Your reason here OR place the reason below this template. ~~~~}}. If you intend to appeal on the arbitration enforcement noticeboard, I suggest you use the arbitration enforcement appeals template on your talk page so it can be copied over easily. You may also appeal directly to me (by email), before or instead of appealing on your talk page.

Reminder to administrators: In May 2014, ArbCom adopted the following procedure instructing administrators regarding Arbitration Enforcement blocks: "No administrator may modify a sanction placed by another administrator without: (1) the explicit prior affirmative consent of the enforcing administrator; or (2) prior affirmative agreement for the modification at (a) AE or (b) AN or (c) ARCA (see "Important notes"). Administrators modifying sanctions out of process may at the discretion of the committee be desysopped."

I sincerely apologize for what happened and I promise you it will not happen again.

Decline reason:

I am declining your unblock request because it does not address the reason for your block, or because it is inadequate for other reasons. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that

  • the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
  • the block is no longer necessary because you:
    1. understand what you have been blocked for,
    2. will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
    3. will make useful contributions instead.

Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. Yamla (talk) 21:32, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Any unblock request must make clear you have read and thoroughly understood WP:ECR and Wikipedia:Contentious topics/Arab–Israeli conflict and explain what you would and would not do, if unblocked. You may also want to propose a WP:TOPICBAN on yourself. --Yamla (talk) 21:48, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

In your opinion, does that demonstrate to us that you have read and thoroughly understood WP:ECR and Wikipedia:Contentious topics/Arab–Israeli conflict? In your opinion, does that explain what you would not do, if unblocked? In your opinion, does that unblock request suggest a WP:TOPICBAN on yourself or explain why it's not necessary? I deleted it, but I noticed an error in the Yom Kippur War article: in the "casualties" section, the Israeli losses are incomplete. It does not mention that Israel lost 407 armored vehicles, and the number of aircraft losses should be written as between 102 and 387, but it is currently listed as only 102, according to Israeli reports only. Additionally, the article should note that Arab forces captured Israeli tanks, just as Israel captured Arab tanks. A response regarding this issue is needed. Bersot12 (talk) 22:48, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
STOP IT. If you continue violating Wikipedia:Contentious topics/Arab–Israeli conflict here, you will have your block extended indefinitely and will lose talk page access. You are not permitted to discuss anything to do with the Arab-Israeli conflict, as you have been told a significant number of times already. --Yamla (talk) 22:49, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Where is the mistake in that? Bersot12 (talk) 22:53, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
You must not discuss anything to do with the Arab-Israeli conflict. AT ALL. If you are having a hard time understanding what you've been told, no problem. There's nothing special about the English language version of Wikipedia. You might have more luck contributing in the version in your own native language, if English isn't your native language. --Yamla (talk) 22:55, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
How can I express my opinion or edit it? Bersot12 (talk) 22:57, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
You must not do this. If you think Wikipedia is the place to do so, you fundamentally misunderstand the entire project. --Yamla (talk) 22:58, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Do you mean I should leave it? Bersot12 (talk) 23:01, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

What I mean is that the Yom Kippur War topic should not be edited or discussed. Bersot12 (talk) 23:06, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
You should not edit or discuss the Yom Kippur War topic, as you have been told over and over and over again. --Yamla (talk) 23:10, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Why? Bersot12 (talk) 23:12, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia:Contentious topics/Arab–Israeli conflict and WP:ECR, as we've pointed you at over and over and over again. --Yamla (talk) 23:15, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
After 30 days and 500 edits, can I edit this article and comply with the rules?
Bersot12 (talk) 23:22, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
You can edit those articles but not to express your opinion once you have extended-confirmed status. That normally happens automatically when your account is 30 days old and has made at least 500 edits. Remember, though, we aren't interested in your opinions on the Arab-Israeli conflict, even if you have extended-confirmed status. This is my last response to you. --Yamla (talk) 23:24, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
If I write a sentence and provide a reliable source for it, will it be accepted? Bersot12 (talk) 23:28, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

(Non-administrator comment) Blocks are not punishment, they are preventative. They are only meant to protect Wikipedia.
Apologising doesn't work because it doesn't show that you understand why you were blocked and how to avoid causing further disruption in future.
To be unblocked, you need to take time and care to read through your Talk page - especially by clicking on the blue-linked policies - then try hard to understand why this happened and what you should have done instead.
Once you've done this, come back here and reply to my post explaining exactly what you did that caused you to be blocked, why it was disruptive, and what you would do differently next time.
Be as specific as you can possibly be.
Usually a vague "I did X so I won't do X" isn't enough, you need to show true understanding of the problem the and exact steps you should take in future.
Reading WP:GAB as well as the blue text links in your block notice will help you a lot. Blue Sonnet (talk) 00:51, 28 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
I created the article “Counterattack on 8 October” by translating most of its content from the Hebrew Wikipedia article. I did this without checking whether the text met the policies of the English Wikipedia, especially regarding neutrality. Bersot12 (talk) 01:12, 28 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
The text's neutrality is not the issue here. ~2025-36540-64 (talk) 03:22, 28 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Seconded - I asked you to read the block notification and the reasons why your earlier appeals were rejected.
If you don't understand what you did wrong, you'll just do it again and that can't be allowed to happen.
I can't (and won't) explain it further because I've given clear instructions that a competent editor should be able to follow easily.
You've been given a clear explanation for your block twice on this very page.
