Capitalization
editHi Barbarbarty, I notice that you re-capitalized "Independent" at Bernie Sanders after I had left an edit comment, explaining why it should not be capitalized. Perhaps you could explain here why you think that it should be capitalized. Note that there is no "Independent" party, so it is not a proper noun. Note also that "independent" is not capitalized anywhere in Independent politician, except where it begins a sentence. I'll look for your reply, here. Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 17:34, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
- I was merely following the example I saw on the pages of other politicians that are/were independent. For example, the “Independent” on Jim Jefford’s page is capitalized. I merely thought it would look neater if all party classifications (or lack of one, in this case) were capitalized, and again, the pages of other Independent politicians that had that format. Hopefully, you can understand my rationale. Thanks for reaching out. Barbarbarty (talk) 17:40, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for your prompt and courteous reply, Barbabarty. Clearly, it's a minor matter. However, I'm probably an overzealous stickler for correct usage. So, I'd prefer that the other pages were also an (i), but I'm not so obsessive that I'm going to pursue that quest! Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 17:52, 27 May 2018 (UTC)

editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Avril Haines, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Democratic Party. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Please stop. If you continue to violate Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy by adding commentary and your personal analysis into articles, you may be blocked from editing.
Please stop. If you continue to insert fringe or undue weight content into articles, you may be blocked from editing. Articles on Wikipedia do not give fringe material equal weight to majority viewpoints; content in articles are given representation in proportion to their prominence.

editDo you like Mozart's music? -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:16, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hello! Sorry for the late reply! I do like classical music of all stripes but sadly I have not regularly listened to it for a long time. But I do enjoy Mozart! Barbarbarty (talk) 00:32, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yesterday, I went to a concert featuring music by Sergei Taneyev. I had not heard the name before, and looked him up, and would have liked to see at a glance where he was born, and didn't because he had no infobox, so gave him one, as a service for the next reader with that question, or for the list of his works. Are you familiar with the RfCs for Beethoven, Mozart and Tchaikovsky? - The piece in the concert was exchanged by one by Mendelssohn ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:03, 16 May 2026 (UTC)
- I hope you had a good time! Thank you for telling me your rationale, although I believe for this article the compulsion for an ibox is less convincing for me. I see you have been active in setting up a new RfC for iboxes at MoS, perhaps that will provide more guidelines for when to include one in the future. Barbarbarty (talk) 23:44, 16 May 2026 (UTC)
- I had a very good time, and again today, with works by Mozart, Borodin and Schumann. I have never been active setting up any RfC, but comment from time to time, such as for Mozart. My guides are Voceditenore (look for the name there) and Brian Boulton, who put a community consensus for Chopin in that article: a model for compromise. I believe that lead and infobox serve different readers and can coexist. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:47, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
- I would like to know what you think about the Chopin compromise. What I see is that other Wikipedias (German, Italian) have the standard information about date and place of birth and death, that I'd expect in every decent encyclopedia, in the first sentence of the lead, but the English Wikipedia has only the dates there, expecting the places in an infobox. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:03, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- I again must restate that I feel that certain articles such as Chopin and other composers would be well-served by iboxes, but only based on how it serves the article, not a one-size-fits-all approach. I am not aware of any new standards dictating a blanket approach to infoboxes, which is unfortunate because if there was I do believe us Wikipedia editors would have put this discourse behind us long ago! Barbarbarty (talk) 20:31, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- We could put it behind us if we accepted that composers, like scientists and writers, are human beings who are born and die, which provides a context in history and location at a glance. (Back to Tanayev, for whom I had to scroll to find where he was born.) Whatever other parameters to fill may differ from case to case. I liked the discussion for W. B. Yeats where consensus was established for individual parameters (discussions still on the talk page). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:58, 21 May 2026 (UTC)

- I wanted to inform you that I reverted your edits regarding Graham Peel and Lennox Berkeley as I did not feel they added to the article for similar reasons that I have stated for other articles. I noticed you also added iboxes for other composers recently, which after looking at those articles I have no problem with. I know guidelines have been modified recently, but if I can made a friendly suggestion, to be wary of being too cavalier adding them to an article when it is clear there can still be reasonable disagreement about their utility for every article. Barbarbarty (talk) 16:55, 21 May 2026 (UTC)

story · music · places - I give "my" articles (latest expansion Felicity Lott) a lead and an infobox, for readers interested in different kinds of presentation of the information. Please give these articles at least a lead. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:31, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
- Rachmaninoff: I don't want to want to blow up the discussion there, but why do you speak about featured articles to a user who possibly doesn't even know what a featured article is? Also please define "plenty". Yes, there are some, but all recent composer FAs have an infobox (Stravinsky and others). - Please add a lead at least to Berkeley. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:47, 24 May 2026 (UTC)
