I propose to add two symbols on the bottom of this template:

¶ indicates railway accidents and incidents resulting in at least 5 fatalities

† indicates railway accidents and incidents resulting in at least 10 fatalities

This is to provide more sufficient detail and just an at-a-glance style identification.

Support: I think that would be very useful for readers to not have to look at the individual articles and save time. Upon finding out that Template:Railway accidents and incidents in the United Kingdom in the 20th century has similar text-based indicators, it would be very sensible to introduce some international consistency. I would like to see where further responses take this discussion and whether consensus emerges before any changes are made as you have mentioned many users. If many favourable responses received in the next few days, strong consideration should be given to closing this discussion per WP:SNOW but it's best to request the closure at WP:CR so no allegations of bias while closing the discussion can be made. I think it would be suitable to let the discussion to run for at least one week if a snow closure is not necessary as that is the timeframe used for discussion like requested moves and articles for deletion discussions.
