@EatingCarBatteries you might be interested in my suggested re-writes of this declie notice at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Articles_for_creation#Overhaul of the AfC decline and reject templates. qcne (talk) 11:52, 3 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Those are fantastic ideas. I've been thinking lately about how the AfC messages can be so unhelpful (hence the recent edit request), and the ones you made are a great first start. I'll take a further look at them. EatingCarBatteries (contribs | talk) 21:59, 3 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Since IP editing is no longer a thing, tracking this is moot now and it shouldn't work anymore, should be removed to cleanup. Sophisticatedevening(talk) 11:04, 11 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Clarify about removing template as article creator?

edit

When I made a draft using Article Wizard and decided to publish directly, I was confused about if I could remove this template. On IRC, somebody said that it could be WP:GAMENAME. When I asked the Teahouse, they said I could have done it myself. Should there be something on Template:AfC submission/created#What to do if you see this template addressing article creators? Is there a better place to clarify, like Help:Your first article or one of the linked pages?

This might not be a common issue, I couldn't find similar questions with a brief search. I'm guessing the bigger problem is people removing this template and publishing directly when they should be going through AfC. Wimwamble (talk) 19:30, 25 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

I might be missing something in the context here, but your situation sounds exactly like point #2 in the /created instructions. Does that point (or the further information below the list) need expansion or clarification? Primefac (talk) 19:41, 25 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
For point 2 it says I should review the page, linking to new page patrol. Since I'm not a new page patroller, I didn't think I could review my own article and determine if it's acceptable. Wimwamble (talk) 19:55, 25 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I've clarified it with an extra statement. Hopefully that will help any future readers. Primefac (talk) 20:02, 25 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

In the ai/llm comment:

  • What I think should be changed:
You should not use LLMs to write articles from scratch.

You should not use LLMs to generate article content.
    * Why it should be changed: WP:NEWLLM has been broadened to forbid all AI-generated content from articles, not just generation from scratch. The notice needs to be updated accordingly.

Description of suggested change:

Adds two new reject reasons (hoax pages and blp attack pages), per this discussion at AfC talk page.

nil nz 02:06, 3 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Are we also removing these as decline reasons? Might be a good idea to reduce duplication. –Novem Linguae (talk) 20:26, 3 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think keeping BLP as a decline is a good idea, as it covers submissions that don't quite border on attack pages, but shouldn't be accepted.
I know @ChrysGalley raised a point for keeping hoax/joke as a less-bitey decline for not obvious-vandals (like kids making drafts about their cat) but I'm sure there are other options (notability/test/custom decline messages) to cover those? nil nz 02:53, 4 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Done The question of whether to remove the decline reasons has not been resolved so I am not going to process that part just yet. Primefac (talk) 11:33, 4 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Did you intend to delete |#default = {{{1}}}? I haven't tested it, but this looks important and like it was perhaps deleted unintentionally. –Novem Linguae (talk) 13:27, 4 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Probably just a minor tone thing, but the wording of the llm decline should be changed to reflect the newer guidelines.

llm = This draft appears to be generated by a [[large language model]] (such as ChatGPT). You [[Wikipedia:NEWLLM|should not use LLMs]] to generate article content.

There was a discussion at WT:N about whether the comments in this template conflict with "policy". The discussion was recently closed, but I leave a note here in case anyone needs to find it later: Wikipedia talk:Notability#c-RememberOrwell-20260309115800-Misleading? Would have been nice if an AFC-related talk page had been informed a bit earlier so we could participate in the disucssion rather than just seeing the outcome of it. But better late than never. Thanks for the notification. –Novem Linguae (talk) 19:20, 29 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

In the "ai" decline reason, the first line should be changed to specify that any AI generated text is the problem, and to avoid implying that the entire draft is AI generated, as this may not always be the case.

My suggestion:

This draft appears to be generated by a large language model (such as ChatGPT). You cannot use LLMs to generate article content.
