  • Comment – I will review this nomination. – Editør (talk) 10:34, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
  • The article is new enough (GA on 6 May 2025, i.e. seven plus two extra days, which I believe is justified here because of the appeal for DYK), long enough (14,209 characters), has no copyright issues (per GA review), and is presentable (per GA review and readthrough). The hook is not cited in the nomination, but it is short enough and interesting, however I think it should be explained better. Right now, the hook mostly works for people who already know the meme and/or photo with Barack Obama, but to work for DYK, I think it should make sense to others. The photo has a free license, is clear at this size, and is used in the article. I'm not convinced it requires a trim. The photo was featured on the Wikipedia home page before, but this was nearly a decade ago (9 December 2015), so I don't believe this is a reason not to use it here. QPQ was done. Could you make the hook understandable (enough) for people who don't already know the meme and can you provide a source? – Editør (talk) 11:03, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
Turns out the image already has a crop, so I added it anyway and a promoter can take their pick. (Close crops are more likely to get picked.) I suggest ALT1: ... that an image of an unimpressed McKayla Maroney (pictured) became an internet phenomenon?.--Launchballer 11:33, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
I like the short hook, but ALT1 explains better what it is about. – Editør (talk) 12:57, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
  • How about keeping the picture together and ALT2: "... that when McKayla Maroney met Barack Obama (both pictured), both were not impressed?" And change the caption to "Maroney and Obama in 2012", they are both prominently in the picture. --GRuban (talk) 11:38, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
I updated the caption, but I'm not keen on ALT2 because it implies that they weren't impressed with each other, which feels like a WP:DYKHOOKBLP violation. (I should really add ", left" to the (pictured) marker, but surely we all know who Obama is?)--Launchballer 12:00, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
I had to think about this for a bit, but I want to propose an alternative hook:
Maroney and Obama not impressed in 2012
Maroney and Obama not impressed in 2012
The caption for the double portrait could then be changed to "Maroney and Obama not impressed in 2012". That way you have both meme and explanation. – Editør (talk) 12:57, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
And here's a source for the hook. – Editør (talk) 13:01, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
I'm very happy with ALT3, but for easy PSHAWing: ALT3a ... that gymnast McKayla Maroney (pictured) caused an internet phenomenon with her 'not impressed' facial expression?.--Launchballer 13:19, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
Alright! I hereby approve ALT3a. – Editør (talk) 13:24, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
I just realised that ALT3a is your hook with a different marker. You'd need another reviewer. Also, internet phenomenon should probably link to list of Internet phenomena per WP:MPNOREDIRECT.--Launchballer 13:45, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
I don't mind a piped link to list of Internet phenomena if that is preferred because of vandalism. Although you are also supporting ALT3/ALT3a, I see your point about another reviewer, but I missed reading about this requirement in the instructions. In any case, I don't prefer the cropped photo over the double portrait if that's what you meant with shortening to "(pictured)". If that is what you meant, I only approve ALT3. – Editør (talk) 14:04, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
