The ship is still in use
editIt would appear that the ship was raised, refurbished, served in the Yugoslav navy from 1952 to 1962 and is currently a gravel barge in Serbia . 23 editor (talk) 01:39, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
- Wow! Good pick-up. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (send... over) 01:50, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
Perhaps the article should be renamed to reflect this new information. It would appear that the ship is still named Sava, but I doubt that the "Yugoslav monitor" prefix is still applied considering its current non-military purpose. 23 editor (talk) 02:12, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
- I don't think so. Its design and primary purpose was as a river monitor, it served as such for more than half a century with four navies and is the reason it is notable. Its last naval service was with the Yugoslav Navy, so that is in accordance with the current title. Plenty of ex-naval vessels get used as ore carriers, freighters etc after their naval service, but we still refer to them by their naval title. Fair enough. Do you suggest we still begin the article with "The Yugoslav monitor Sava was..."? It's pretty clear the ship is still in use. 23 editor (talk) 02:23, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
- Hi, I don't think so. She was a river monitor, she isn't now. If she was refurbished as a monitor (museum piece or whatever), I think described her using "was" would probably then be inappropriate. As it stands, she was a monitor once, not anymore. What do you think? Peacemaker67 (send... over) 10:19, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
It looks alright, I suppose. Thanks for expanding the lead. 23 editor (talk) 11:38, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
Overlinking
editThere are some major problems with WP:OVERLINK on this article. The aim of linking is not to cram in as many links as possible but to provide judicious useful links which help our readers. --John (talk) 13:04, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- Can you give some examples? Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 00:13, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
A couple of questions
editOne: wouldn’t it make more sense to use the newest image of her in the lead? I think it’s fairly typical of objects and structures that still exist to use the latest picture first. Two: shouldn’t the indobox include a section on her contemporary status— isn’t she currently flagged to Serbia? Dronebogus (talk) 05:41, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- I don't agree regarding the infobox image. Her most famous exploit relates to WWI, so an image from that time seems most appropriate. Good idea about an additional section, I'll add that once it is off the main page. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 10:22, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
