Left-wing

edit

In my opinion left-wing should be removed from the infobox with Stefanos Kasselakis as the new leader and New Left (Greece) i think the new more centrist direction is now manifested Braganza (talk) 22:20, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

We'd need some evidence that the party itself has shifted. It’s not up for editors to decide on such things but reliable third-party sources. Helper201 (talk) 16:46, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Left-wing, is moderate. Far-left on the other hand isn’t. This party is part of the populist left-wing resurgence in the 2000s and 2010s (i’de say the "true" left-wing, but whatever) opposed to both the far-left communist parties (with which alliances aren’t inacceptable of course) and a "social-democracy" converted to the neol-iberal doxa. The party is very much left-wing, it’s strategy is still based on the theories of Chantal Mouffe, and while it had to back down because of the international context in which the Greeks found themselves, it’s still part of The Left in the European Parliament. The main problem is that Stefanos Kasselakis is a former supporter of the U.S. Democratic Party and has advocated emulating that party's policies in Greece. Kasselakis "has been accused of "right-wing populism" and authoritarian practices during his time leading Syriza.[1][2] " I have voted Syriza for most of my adult life, but I am seriously worried when I see that a "leftist" leader is openly religious and gives speeches about his support of the fatherland. Well, Pedro Castillo is a leftist, sometimes even labeled far-left. This brand of "left-conservatism" is qualified as left-wing on our page on BSW. We will have to see what happens. For now, most sources probably still qualify the party as left-wing. With European elections happening soon, and Podemos being pretty much dead, Sumar not knowing where to go (though probably more compatible with the Greens than with the left), La France Insoumise being one of the only somewhat dominating and classical left-wing parties in Europe, Die Linke being dead, and Sahra Wagenknecht literally announcing the creation of a new group, sources are probably going to change accordingly. Thats mostly because he gets something that unfortunantly most leftist with few exeptions understand. Europe is being pushe towards the right and in order to still appeal to the labouring classes he needs to to adopt some patrotic ferver. He still supports the prespe treaty so we cant fear some kind of nationalistic tendency and also he has said that he supports the seperation of church and state Takis S1 (talk) 16:35, 24 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
" he needs to to adopt some patrotic ferver" In the style of left-wing nationalism? Dimadick (talk) 05:08, 25 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hm i am not sure in greece im preaty sure this kind of patriotism is default all parties have it. And im not sure if he is genuinly pushing the party towards that position or whether its just a strategic choice to attract voters from right wing parties and course of freedom Takis S1 (talk) 11:19, 26 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think soley the fact that they participate in the european left defines them as left-wing. If the change of leadership was significant enough they wouldve jumped ship and joined the socialist and democrats. Lastly, we still dont know if the change of leadership will be permenant its simply too early to make large changes. Takis S1 (talk) 19:52, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Takis S1 to use a party's EU group to define its political position is WP:SYNTH. Claims should be explicitly stated by reliable sources. Helper201 (talk) 16:20, 24 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
In my opinion, Syriza is as left wing as SFIO was in the 1950s. Under Kasselakis and continuing under Famellos, who are both moderates, the party has become a mainstream centre-left party, with only tiny middle-left influences from its radical left past. Centre-
left-to-Left-wing was only a legitimate position claim in 2016-2023, under Tsipras. So are left-wing populism and soft euroscepticism. That’s why I made some changes 2A02:85F:EC51:AB01:48DF:56F7:5CB2:5AB1 (talk) 18:16, 10 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Those who left the Coalition

edit

Several of the original member parties left the coalition and many formed Popular Unity (Greece). Should they continue to be included as part of SYRIZA along with their ideologies? 186.32.217.1 (talk) 23:13, 14 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Kasselakis is not the leader

edit

I saw plenty if edit warring due to the vote of no confidence against kasselakis and i need to say that the motion of no confidence also said that he wouldn't even have a caretaker role so currently we should either put TBD or vacant.

p.s stop removing the linou controversy part its an important event that lead to the vote of no confidence

Eva The Lefty (talk) 15:47, 8 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

I think it is better to wait until the nominations are officially announced. Also, how is it that Linou's deletion has anything to do with the motion of no confidence?

I restore TBD. You are right about that. Pallikari ap' ta Sfakia 01:38, 9 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Syriza under Famellos is Centre-left

edit

Under Kasselakis and continuing under Famellos, Syriza has become a mainstream social democratic Party. It is no longer left-wing populist and eurosceptic. To be honest, I haven’t read many sources, but the ones that I have consistently say Famellos is a moderate within the party Abotekap (talk) 18:42, 11 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
