Sourcing
edit21 out of the 27 given references at this time are internally generated by the company itself, either in the form of company web pages, press releases, or internal company documents that other editors have no way of editing. These statements these references support are generally not considered to be in accordance with Wikipedia policies unless they can be replaced by reliable, third-party, sources that contain the same information. The company itself does appear notable based on the relatively few third-party sources already included.--Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 17:22, 9 November 2013 (UTC)
Title of Page --- Smith vs NF Smith and Associates
edit@GearsDatapacks Wanted to discuss the title change --- the company is commonly referred to as just "Smith". See its website as well as industry sources for reference: https://smithweb.com/

I'd recommend changing the title to "Smith (electronic-component distributor)" to align with how they are most commonly known. ZHatch23 (talk) 15:59, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

N.F. Smith & Associates → Smith (electronic-component distributor) – The new name better follows the article title guidelines and principles: "Generally, article titles are based on what the subject is called in reliable sources. When this offers multiple possibilities, editors choose among them by considering several principles: the ideal article title precisely identifies the subject; it is short, natural, distinguishable and recognizable; and resembles titles for similar articles."
The company is most commonly referred to as "Smith," not "N.F. Smith and Associates". See its website as well as various third-party industry publications for reference:

While the new name is longer when including the disambiguation, it precisely identifies the subject; is natural, distinguishable, and recognizable; and resembles titles for similar articles (Smith (advertising agency)).
At its core, a title is supposed to tell anyone searching for the subject what the article is about. Given the company is commonly referred to as "Smith" within the industry, the vast majority of people looking for this company would be searching "Smith," not "NF Smith and Associates," using the disambiguation for clarity before the alternative name. - How about Smith (electronics company) or Smith (electronics distributor) or Smith (electronics)? — BarrelProof (talk) 17:44, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
- I don't mind Smith (electronics distributor) --- same thing, for all intents and purposes and to most people. Appreciate the suggestion. Do I need to make a new title change request? ZHatch23 (talk) 18:39, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
- A new request is not necessary. — BarrelProof (talk) 19:10, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
