The result of the move request was: not moved. St. as an abbreviation for Sankt is not accepted and regarded as confusing; also, many primary topic grabs require further work. (closed by non-admin page mover) Iseult Δx talk to me 21:29, 10 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

– This multi-move aims for consistent place names in Upper Austria. Most English and German sources prefer the abbreviation "St." over "Sankt" e.g. https://www.oesterreich.gv.at/de/themen/bauen_und_wohnen/1/5 Joe vom Titan (talk) 16:08, 16 February 2026 (UTC)  Relisting. TarnishedPathtalk 04:20, 25 February 2026 (UTC)  Relisting. Iseult Δx talk to me 07:41, 3 April 2026 (UTC)  Relisting. TarnishedPathtalk 12:40, 10 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Note that St. Agatha and St. Florian currently redirect to the respective Saint while St. Konrad, St. Pantaleon, St. Roman and St. Willibald already redirect to the place. I guess all six of these should have hatnotes pointing to the saint. Joe vom Titan (talk) 16:13, 16 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
I've seen an argument that these pages should be at e.g. "St Aegidi" without the period instead of at e.g. "St. Aegidi". I've searched for articles mentioning "Pölten" in the BBC, Guardian, New York Times and Sydney Morning Herald. They seem to prefer the version without the period except when the BBC reports on sports. However, our style guide is clearly in favour of the official version. Official Austrian sources always use the period (or sometimes Sankt). Joe vom Titan (talk) 17:14, 16 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
