Image of the subject
editThe current image of the subject of this article is clear enough and of a popular icon of the deity. The deity is at Palitana temples which is considered to be a popular Jain site. Besides, the picture conforms to Wikipedia's standards as highlighted at MOS:IMAGEQUALITY and MOS:PERTINENCE. In my opinion, the image does not require a change. However, if someone thinks otherwise, let's discuss it before editing the page. ParvatPrakash (talk) 06:12, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- I noticed that the lead image previously showed a photo from one sect. Since this article covers the subject as a whole, the lead photo should ideally represent the topic neutrally rather than focusing on a particular tradition. Per [WP:NPOV] and WP:UNDUE, I’ve restored an updated photo that better reflects the broader subject. If there are alternative suggestions for a representative image, let’s discuss here before making further changes. Starry Pine (talk) 18:16, 13 September 2025 (UTC)
- Just a note for future edits: it’s usually better to use older idols, neutral photos that represent the subject as a whole, rather than images tied to a specific sect. This helps keep the article balanced and in line with WP:NPOV. Starry Pine (talk) 18:17, 13 September 2025 (UTC)
Proposal: Sequence-Based Images for All 24 Tirthankaras
editThere has been ongoing edit-warring regarding which sect’s (Śvetāmbara or Digambara) images should be used for each Tirthankara. To maintain balance and follow Wikipedia’s Neutral Point of View policy, I propose the following sequence-based approach, alternating between Digambara and Śvetāmbara images:
| No. | Tirthankara | Proposed Image |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Rishabhanatha | Digambara image |
| 2 | Ajitanatha | Śvetāmbara image |
| 3 | Sambhavanatha | Digambara image |
| 4 | Abhinandananatha | Śvetāmbara image |
| 5 | Sumatinatha | Digambara image |
| 6 | Padmaprabha | Śvetāmbara image |
| 7 | Suparshvanatha | Digambara image |
| 8 | Chandraprabha | Śvetāmbara image |
| 9 | Pushpadanta | Digambara image |
| 10 | Shitalanatha | Śvetāmbara image |
| 11 | Shreyansanatha | Digambara image |
| 12 | Vasupujya | Śvetāmbara image |
| 13 | Vimalanatha | Digambara image |
| 14 | Anantanatha | Śvetāmbara image |
| 15 | Dharmanatha | Digambara image |
| 16 | Shantinatha | Śvetāmbara image |
| 17 | Kunthunatha | Digambara image |
| 18 | Aranatha | Śvetāmbara image |
| 19 | Mallinatha | Digambara image |
| 20 | Munisuvrata | Śvetāmbara image |
| 21 | Naminatha | Digambara image |
| 22 | Neminatha | Śvetāmbara image |
| 23 | Parshvanatha | Digambara image |
| 24 | Mahavira | Śvetāmbara image |
Note: All editors should follow this exact sequence across all Tirthankara pages. Any changes or removals should be discussed here before editing to ensure consistency and avoid repeated disputes. ~~ Starry Pine (talk) 06:29, 23 September 2025 (UTC)
