Hi again. This looked pretty good on first reading, so let's have a go at this. Canary757 (talk) 06:58, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I recommend
Early life - was born add the date in (plus ref if required)
Done. The 1891 census ref covers the facts of this sentance. Metalicat (talk) 13:51, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Early career - Do we know when he made his debut? Link welterweight. Merge first sentence with following paragraph. I'd swap In 1903 to The following year. Harding summarized - Briefly, who's Harding?
BoxRec says it was the 20 September 1902 and I cannot find any mention of him before that in the British Newspaper Archive. But the newspaper reports do not explicitly say this was his debut, so I have re-worded this cautiously. I have made the other changes and explained who harding is. Metalicat (talk) 13:51, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Int career - check WP:SOB. There is a double violation in one sentence (ie middleweight champion person x in succession). Link malaria. What was the favourable impression? Ability? Exciting style? Entertainment value? Canary757 (talk) 09:02, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have cleaned up the WP:SOB issues, linked Malaria and added more detail from the referenced article. Metalicat (talk) 13:51, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
1911-18 -I'd merge the first two short paragraphs, Consider ditching the 'Heavyweight challenges' subtitle - Maybe add this title as part of the initial '1911-18' heading (per MOS:OVERSECTION), the full name of Carpentier can be added and linked. The full name of Bettinson, his title and link are needed. I'd expand NSC acronym on first usage and link. Link Lonsdale Belt, can the newspapers be linked? I recommend describing Jimmy Wilde ie 'fellow boxer'. Canary757 (talk) 09:28, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Have done the paragraph merge, section tweak and added a descriptor for Jimmy Wilde. Carpentier, A.F. Bettinson, the Lonsdale Belt, NSC and newspapers are all linked at first mention. Metalicat (talk) 13:51, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Military - WW1, Lance C, Corporal, Sergeant, Imperial War Museum and BBBofC can be linked. Also Daily Herald maybe? Guy Deghy link goes to a Hungarian actor, is this correct? In May 2015, needs a comma. Aston Villa football grounds sounds a little awkward. Simply Villa Park? Thanks. Canary757 (talk) 09:43, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
In the history of the NSC, Guy I'd trim this as it's going into a history of the NSC just to mention he could be introduced by his rank.
Later life I think the death of his son should be moved into the personal life section.
The short paragraph about being hit by a gong seems a bit MOS:TRIVIA to me?
I think the paragraphs beginning Although O'Keeffe and In March 1922 would be better merged.
You could link flying bomb.
Canary757 (talk) 10:52, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

All wikilinks added. The Guy Deghy link is correct; he was a Hungarian-born writer who settled in England. A list of his published works can be found here. I have trimmed the Deghy sentence, changed the venue to Villa Park, and linked flying bomb. The son's service has been moved to Personal life with clarification that he survived. The gong paragraph has been merged into the adjacent paragraph rather than removed entirely, and the 1920 paragraphs have been merged. I also noticed and corrected a chronology issue in Later life where the 1923 royal visit was appearing before the 1920–1922 material. Metalicat (talk) 13:51, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the thorough review, Canary757. I think that covers everything. Let me know if there's anything else you'd like me to address. Metalicat (talk) 13:51, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi METALICAT. Thanks for making some edits.
You don't need all the references in the lead - see Aryna Sabalenka and Mark Selby for example. It's best to double references in the lead for controversies and contentious material though.
The Usherettes photo appears to need extra copyright info. The template asks what steps have been taken to ID the author to be added to the image description.
When was the Carpentier fight? (In article body)
May I ask how you chose which fights are notable for the chart? BOXREC seems to show 06 vs Thomas and 07 vs Scott were both title fights for example.
Earwig copyvio check is 1% so all good there. Thanks. Canary757 (talk) 17:14, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Canary757, Lead references trimmed per WP:LEADCITE; refs retained for evaluative claims not repeated verbatim in the body. The Usherettes photo has been updated with full diligent search documentation on Commons. Carpentier fight date added to the body text. Regarding the notable bouts table, I examined the Scott fight but the contemporary source BoxRec cites (Sporting Life, 12 February 1907) describes it as a standard fifteen-round contest with no title billing, and O'Keeffe did not hold the championship at that time, so I have excluded it. The Thomas fight (May 1906 title loss) has been added. I have expanded the table to include all title fights and bouts against future or reigning world/European champions, bringing it to 13 entries. Metalicat (talk) 20:41, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thanks METALICAT, almost there!
I'd introduce Corri as a referee, make it clear who 'struck' after the gong and maybe switch 'struck' to 'landed a punch' or blow? Thanks. Canary757 (talk) 09:10, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Morning Canary757, clarifications made. Metalicat (talk) 11:15, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi, I've checked many of the fights against BOXREC. Two queries. Article says Lewis 07 fight in Boston whereas BOXREC has the nearby Chelsea, Massachusetts. BOXREC uses Geoff Thorne not Jeff? I can't directly access the BNA articles, but I've spent some time searching for him on there and I have been able to verify a decent number of facts from the previews, ranging from results to personal info like height/weight and smaller details down to letters he wore on his shirt. Thanks. Canary757 (talk) 13:44, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Canary757. Harry Lewis bout location corrected from Boston to Chelsea, Massachusetts, and cited to The Standard-Times (New Bedford, Massachusetts), 24 December 1907, p. 10. using newspapers.com. First name changed to Geoff as the source doesn't give a first name and like you say, Jeff can't be found anywhere. Metalicat (talk) 14:47, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Last thing. I think the reference for the quarts anecdote should have a clickable link to a newspaper archive as with the others, especially if it's up for DYK. Thanks. Canary757 (talk) 16:28, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
HI Canary757, it does on the line above the quote, but I will move to the end of the quote. Metalicat (talk) 16:41, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Great. Happy to pass against GA criteria. Article looks well researched and gives a thorough examination of his life using a good variety of historic sources. Congrats. Canary757 (talk) 16:51, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
