First North Bridge
editThe article states, "The first stone of the original bridge was laid on 21 October 1763 by the Lord Provost, George Drummond ... In that year, the North Loch, which separated the New from the Old Town, was drained, and the mud removed."
There are two issues here. First, the Nor' Loch cannot have separated the Old Town from New Town in 1763, because the New Town did not exist at that time. Second, I believe that the Nor' Loch wasn't drained until quite some time after the completion of the First New Town. (If it has been otherwise, there would have been no need to build The Mound in the 1780s.)
If any editor can improve this wording, that would be helpful. If not, I will have a shot at doing it myself. Mike Marchmont (talk) 14:57, 27 July 2025 (UTC)
