Recurring characters

edit

One user keeps deleting Mrs. Belvin as a recurring character, which is defined in Wikipedia as a fictional character that appears in multiple episodes. The user states that a character must appear in four episodes to be recurring. There is no standard reference to support this. Additionally, it doesn't make sense since a percentage of episodes would be a better measure of "how recurring" character is. Finally, the user does not delete other recurring characters who have appeared in fewer than four episodes. Recommend all recurring characters be listed at least until the end of the first season, when they can reassessed as whether recurring or not. MovieRick (talk) 13:47, 14 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Both Piper Curda and Andrea Londoare reliably sourced under Casting as Recurring while the rest have already appeared in at least 4 episodes. Then, you need to provide reliable source to confirm Patricia Belcher as Recurring. There is a general consensus in MOS:TV and/or WP:TV Talk archives that 4-5 episodes is Recurring. — YoungForever(talk) 17:48, 14 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
No references are listed for Curda or Londoacre, so the "reliable sources" need to be added. A "general consensus" is not a definition nor even a standard guideline. Additionally, as explained earlier, appearing in four of eight episodes is very different from appearing in four of, say, 60 episodes. So, let's compromise and keep the characters played by Belcher, Curda, and Londoacre as recurring in the Matlock entry until the end of the season. At that time, we can make a determination as to whether they should be listed as "recurring characters." Sound good? MovieRick (talk) 23:49, 14 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
You clearly did not even bother to check if they are actually reliably sourced or not. Both Piper Curda and Andrea Londoare reliably sourced under Casting as Recurring, please Matlock (2024 TV series)#Casting in which it is CLEARLY stated: In August 2024, Andrea Londo and Piper Curda joined the cast in recurring roles.[1][2] Again, you need to provide reliable source to confirm Patricia Belcher as Recurring. Also, 4-5 episodes is Recurring is standard and common practice. — YoungForever(talk) 00:46, 15 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
I expected to see a footnote from the character's name to the reference. However, no problem. You're good with leaving all three as recurring characters until the end of the season, right? Then, adjustments can be made to the entry if required. MovieRick (talk) 01:59, 15 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Did you provide a reliable source to confirm Patricia Belcher as Recurring? You still failed to provide a reliable source to confirm as Recurring. I did not agree anything, please do not put your words in my mouth. Londo and Curda both are reliably sourced as stated before. — YoungForever(talk) 03:31, 15 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Patricia Belcher is listed in the opening credits of the following episodes, which can be viewed on Paramount+:
I am trying to reach a compromise on this issue as required by Wikipedia's guidelines. MovieRick (talk) 03:45, 15 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
FYI, TVMaze is not a reliable source, please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Television/FAQ#Unreliable sources. Again, you still need to provide an actual reliable source. — YoungForever(talk) 20:37, 15 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
I already added the TV episodes as references. Wikipedia allows the citing of TV episodes as references. MovieRick (talk) 22:16, 15 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yet 3 episodes is not Recurring nor explicitly saying she is Recurring. Where is the four episode or an actually reliable source confirm her as Recurring. — YoungForever(talk) 17:08, 16 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
There is no definitive requirement that a character must appear in four episodes to be recurring. The fact that the actress appears in multiple episodes as the same character, listed in the credits at the start of the episode, makes the character recurring. MovieRick (talk) 03:46, 17 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Again, you failed to provide an actual reliable source to confirm her as Recurring. What part of no reliable source provided to confirm as Recurring do you seem to not understand at all? Per MOS:TVCAST, A cast member or character appearing in more than one episode, or in two or more consecutive episodes, does not necessarily mean that character has a "recurring" role. An actor or character may simply have a guest role across several episodes, rather than a recurring story arc throughout the show.YoungForever(talk) 05:34, 17 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
That section mentions nothing about a character having to appear in a minimum of four episodes to be recurring. The character of Mrs. Belvin has appeared in over one-third of the episodes thus far. That makes her a recurring character as of now. MovieRick (talk) 13:11, 17 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Again, it is a standard and common practice on MOS:TV and/or WP:TV that 4-5 episodes is Recurring. She has yet to appear in at least 4 episodes nor did you provide a reliable source to confirm her as Recurring. There many guest stars that appeared in 3 episodes or less and she isn't any different. Londo and Curda both are reliably sourced as stated before. — YoungForever(talk) 17:44, 17 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Not a Reboot

edit

The new Matlock with Kathy Bates is most certainly NOT a reboot of the original. Its plot line draws from the original in a most unusual way, which is made known in the 1st or 2nd episode (can’t recall exactly when). Creative program not found these days on Network TV. 47.201.253.104 (talk) 02:41, 12 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Bitsy is not asked to be Alfie's GODMOTHER, but his GUARDIAN in case Edwin and Matty should die. A godparent is involved only where there is a baptism, and to talk of the baptism of a 13-year-old is absurd and comes out of nowhere, unless the Kingstons are Baptists, whereas there's been no indication that they're religious. 142.181.230.192 (talk) 18:45, 20 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
