Expanded scope

edit

Maybe we could expand the scope to Cemeteries in New York City to include a few paragraphs on their general history and the laws around them.--Pharos (talk) 05:20, 12 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Cold Springs

edit

Why is Cold Springs Cemetery, in Niagara County, listed as being in Queens? 161.185.196.27 (talk) 19:07, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

It was still listed there, so I just removed it. Universaloutlink (talk) 19:18, 19 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

What is the intention of this list?

edit

I'd like to begin developing this list further, but this question needs to be answered before much is added or removed. If the point is to create an exhaustive list of all current and former cemeteries in NYC, this page needs a lot of work, and the resulting list will be quite long. It may also become confusing, since many historical cemeteries in NYC have been moved or developed over. Maybe it can be subdivided into current and former cemeteries.

If the point is to create some kind of curated list of cemeteries in NYC (for instance, only physically present or active cemeteries), then the entry for the potter's field at Washington Square Park should be removed. And if this is the case, I think a decision should be made about what to do with cemeteries that have been acquired by or absorbed into other cemeteries, such as Hungarian Union Field, Knollwood Park, and Mount Neboh, which are now considered sections of Mount Carmel. Thoughts? Universaloutlink (talk) 19:42, 19 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

After reviewing Wikipedia:Stand-alone lists and Talk:List of cemeteries in California, I'm leaning towards revamping this page to include only classically notable cemeteries. It's just the easiest way to pare this down. Universaloutlink (talk) 23:29, 4 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'd say that's the way to go; I would include former cemeteries, as long as they're notable. As part of editing the intro, I've added the (currently aspirational) statement that only notable cemeteries are listed.--NapoliRoma (talk) 20:42, 11 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for chiming in. I've just completed a bunch of edits to this end; if you have the time, I'd appreciate if you could review and let me know if you have any further suggestions. Universaloutlink (talk) 14:56, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
