MSSM location
editThe Maine School of Science & Mathematics is not located on the former Loring AFB. It occupies a portion of the town (? or regional) high school and is situated in the town itself.
It's connection to Loring is that, during the period when the AFB was active, the USAF subsidized erection of the high school to service both USAF dependents and children of town residents who were not connected with the AFB. (I'll research the point, but the existing, well-equipped, still reasonably modern structure either replaced an older, inadequate school or created a high school that didn’t previously exist - with locals instead having attended a regional high school previously.)
When Loring was deactivated, many former USAF buildings outside the base itself were transferred to the town or state. The high school bldg was never designated as owned or operated by the USAF, only subsidized. Irish Melkite (talk) 17:55, 16 August 2025 (UTC)
