Themes: Musulmans

edit

I have deleted the "Themes" section, for it gave the false impression (derived from the cited source) May's books would mainly concern fanatic Moslems. Certainly they appear in his works among the "bad guys". But not all of his "bad Moslems" are fanatics, but just criminals, and the greater part of his "bad guys" are Christians (at least on paper). Furthermore, there are many positive characterised Moslems in his works. Concerning May the cited Spiegel-Online-article is not very sophisticated. --Czelko (talk) 20:09, 6 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

I can't contest the reasonableness of the reversion; except that it leaves out one of a number of elements I think should be incorporated. (I did say 'Themes' plural; though I only had the one to start.) The Anthony Grafton cite that hovered a little puzzlingly below this paragraph (don't see it now; it was dated 2008) I thought would maybe lead in that direction. In any event, the field I think is open and don't see disagreement from the reversion-explanation here. Thanks. Swliv (talk) 21:56, 6 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Mein Kampf

edit

A previous version indicated that the quote "I was overwhelmed" stems from Mein Kampf. I've searched through Mein Kampf and found no mention of May or his novels. Indeed, the book "Hitler Redux" by the historian Mikael Nilsson indicates clearly that "the passages about America in Mein Kampf have no relation to May's books." It appears that the quote in question appears in the collection of informal conversations later published as "Hitler's Table Talk, 1941-1944." Since the meaning of the sentence doesn't hinge on the source, this was an easy fix. Shirefire1 (talk) 19:13, 12 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

I just read through the "Influence on the Nazis" section, which is mostly about Hitler's well-documented love of and admiration for May. There are multiple problems with the references there. Especially the use of Grafton's 2008 New Republic article, which merely summarizes the information in Hamann's 1999 book about Hitler's Vienna years (there esp. pp. 382-84 and notes on 446f). I think it would be worth putting in the references to Hamann's original sources (memoirs of people who knew Hitler personally), instead of the tertiary use by Grafton. IMO this section needs substantial work. Hmarcuse (talk) 22:41, 22 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
