Misleading Wording

edit
  • What I think should be changed (format using {{textdiff}}):
Rogan has expressed transphobic views, calling transgender people "fucking perverts" and spread disinformation, claiming transgender people are the majority of high school shooters, which is false.
    +
Rogan has spread disinformation about transgender people, claiming they are the majority of high school shooters, which is false.
  • Why it should be changed: Rogan claimed that there are certain members of the transgender community who are not truly transgender, but derive sexual pleasure from "pretending to be a woman," and who "want to be around women, and they're creeps." Whether or not this is a transphobic view is debatable, but it is misleading to describe what Rogan did as "calling transgender people 'fucking perverts.'" It removes the context that he is talking only about a small minority of the transgender community whom he does not believe to be honestly transgender, having affirmed “I genuinely think there’s people that feel like they are in the wrong biological sex, right?” This is acknowledged by the two sources provided, and is in line with his previously expressed views about the legitimacy of transgenderism.

Not done for now. This is pretty reasonable, but stuff like this is bound to incite arguments, so it would be better to discuss it first. Deacon Vorbis (carbon  videos) 04:20, 8 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Some sources cited on this page are directly from tabloid sources and opinion articles.

edit

I am new to wikipedia editing and will need some assistance with how this process works but the statement "Rogan has been criticized for promoting conspiracy theories, COVID-19 misinformation, transphobia and for hosting guests who spread misinformation and pseudoscience." is unsupported by credible sources.

See WP:RSP for some beginner orientation on sources. These are both good sources. We definitely wouldn't want to have Wikipedia whitewash the topic, as Joe's misinformation-mongering is often covered and is part of the knowledge on this topic we need to convey. In fact hasn't Joe indulged in rather more than this, like moon-landing hoax stuff? Bon courage (talk) 21:02, 25 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
The point is the sources are from a tabloid, specifically against the rules of Wikipedia especially for biographical pages, and an opinion article, again, not worthy of being cited in a biographical page. Much of the information stated seems to be taken out of context for the purpose of degrading the image of the individual the page is about, not actually providing valuable information to readers. Mydogisadorable (talk) 02:22, 27 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
They're both good sources (to repeat). This is a long article and it does have some (actually) bad sources for various details of Joe's life. The fact that you have immediately zeroed-in on the small amount of criticism and are arguing for removal is in effect a move to whitewash the article. It is not meant to be a criticism-free zone and, as sources make clear, the podcast has been the source of some terrible misinformation. Bon courage (talk) 04:31, 27 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sourcing misinformation with more misinformation is backwards, I do not understand. Also, I do not know what whitewashing means Mydogisadorable (talk) 16:44, 27 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
See. Bon courage (talk) 16:51, 27 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
I see, I feel like true facts would be stronger if sourced from proper locations instead of opinions and tabloids still. Mydogisadorable (talk) 18:42, 27 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Joe Rogan and My Chemical Romance relation

edit

The article claims that Joe Rogan and My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way and Mikey Way are first cousins once removed, and the linked interviews stated that the Ways' "Aunt Josie" was Rogan's grandmother. This would imply that Rogan and the Ways are first cousins once removed, with the former being from the younger generation, and the latter two from the older gen despite both being born after Rogan.

However, just because Gerard Way only said "aunt" doesn't necessarily mean he meant "aunt" as in one of his parent's sibings. Now, it's actually quite common for a cousin once removed from the older generation to actually be younger than the other one from the newer gen (my family included), but even then I realized this particular example didn't add up.

So I took the time to research the relation. My cousin, who is a diehard MCR fan, knows about their grandmother, Elena Lee Rush (née Spadone), who is in fact the thesis of their song "Helena". Then I went to Geneastar which has the family tree. Their grandma Elena is maternal, she only had one other child (a son), and she also had an older sister named Josephine. Turns out she was that "Aunt Josie", Joe Rogan's grandmother, making her the Ways' GREAT-aunt and therefore making MCR second cousins with Rogan, not first cousins once removed.

Should we add Rogan's views on circumcision to the article? Can we do so responsibly?

edit

I wrote a paragraph with sources about one of Joe Rogan's strongest held beliefs which is that circumcision is unnecessary and unethical. It's the first paragraph here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Joe_Rogan&oldid=1350654444#Other_views,_medical_misinformation,_and_advocacy . Turns out I misunderstood the requirements for writing in the Biographies of Living Persons (BLP) and I needed more reliable secondary sources to make the claim that Rogan is an "Intactivist" even though he's called himself one by name. I don't object to these strong requirements, and he is no longer listed as an activist against circumcision. I do think someone who is famous for intentionally presenting interesting and controversial views on health and personal freedom should have his earnestly held opinion (consistent since at least 2012) in his article, whether or not you agree with him.

Bearing in mind that Wikipedia isn't censored, should the article mention his beliefs on the topic? Do we have the quality sources to accurately present his beliefs without citing his videos directly? GlowingLava (talk) 06:09, 24 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Rogan evidently has lots of fringe views (e.g. on the Pyramids and the Moon landings), for which there is also ample weak sourcing. What is so very special about circumcision that among these it needs a special showcasing here? Bon courage (talk) 07:45, 24 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Rogan has shown a particular passion for this topic, bringing it up often and energetically. One source in my edit claimed it appeared to be his strongest held belief. I wouldn't call being against circumcision fringe, all of Europe is pretty unanimous in thinking that way, and 2/3 of the males on the planet aren't cut, but it is novel the he vocally feels this way in the United States. It's also interesting that Rogan bumps elbows with the religious right when opposing circumcision is usually more of a lefty, feminist, religious reformist, or atheist topic.
