What is with the picture?

It would be helpful if you could suggest an alternative then. Would you prefer the picture that was previously in use? If so, since the change was made by an IP, I'd be willing to restore the previous photo. DonIago (talk) 04:29, 13 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
The current picture is HORRIBLE. The older picture is much better. 2405:201:6:6085:F4F3:FFD2:A937:93CA (talk) 03:54, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Request for comment: infobox picture

edit

I have reverted the page to use File:Jason_Bateman_2011.jpg, which someone else suggested. Please leave comments either supporting or opposing this (compared to the previous one, File:Jason Batement at the Air Premiere (cropped).jpg), as there is a specific user that, for reasons unknown, keeps reverting all edits to the infobox picture that aren't the ratchet 2023 version.

Apologies if I am doing the RfC process wrong, I mostly avoid Wikipedia discussions due to folks stonewalling and abusing process to revert changes they don't like. ~2026-59637-0 (talk) 22:03, 27 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

You should have done this in the first place. If you continue to change the picture without consensus, then you will be reported. Shoot for the Stars (talk) 23:39, 27 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
This attitude is exactly the sort of thing I'm talking about, btw. ~2026-59637-0 (talk) 04:30, 28 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
And you have become very disruptive, changing the picture multiple times. If you continue to do that, I will request that this page be semi-protected. Shoot for the Stars (talk) 23:40, 27 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi, please don't assume that all the people reverting it are the same person, because they're not. I have only changed the picture once, and the fact that a bunch of distinct people have changed it should maybe clue you in that it's a terrible picture and your opinion is probably a minority one. There's nothing "going on here", there's nothing coordinated, it's just very obviously a bad picture. ~2026-59637-0 (talk) 04:29, 28 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
I vote that we keep the 2023 image because it looks the most like him now. The 2023 is not bad quality AT ALL. The 2011 photo is from over 15 YEARS AGO, and he looks vastly different now. Your only edits on Wikipedia are to change the picture, and all the accounts that have been changing the picture for months are also IPs, whose only contributions are also just to change the picture. I suspect something is going on here. Shoot for the Stars (talk) 23:43, 27 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's not bad quality but at what cost? It is one of the most notoriously unflatering photos on Wikipedia Wcamp9 (talk) 02:03, 2 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hey, chiming in here as another person who changed the photo recently, I vote that we use the 2011 picture or 2018 picture. His neutral expressions in those photos make him much more recognizable than in the current photo. I can see tons of other examples of pages using older, higher quality photos of people in the infobox - Nicolas Cage's main picture is from 2011, Gary Oldman's is from 2014, Javier Bardem's is from 2018.
Also, just to add a note here, as someone who edits Wikipedia on occasion but has never felt the need to make an account, I feel like it's pretty bad if one active editor is able to steamroll a bunch of different editors who are trying to improve the page. Five people on this talk page have expressed concerns about the current page image, and at least as many have actually changed the image in the infobox in the last year. Threatening to report people for being disruptive (see 12 January edit summaries) when they're just trying to help goes against the very ethos of Wikipedia as a site where anybody can edit. Apparently "anybody can edit" this page, but then one person gets to decide whether your edit stays up or if you get reported to the wikipedia admins instead. ~2026-24846-0 (talk) 07:17, 28 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
And all who voted to change the photo are IP addresses, and their only edits are to this talkpage. Only ONE ACTUAL ACCOUNT with edits outside of this talk page has voted for another image. It is super concerning how all these random IPs are coming out of nowhere. Shoot for the Stars (talk) 21:09, 1 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
"It is super concerning how all these random IPs are coming out of nowhere." - have you considered the possibility that it's actually just a terrible picture on a popular page? ~2026-59637-0 (talk) 05:54, 2 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
As an RfC, this is malformed because it's clearly non-neutral and incorporates concerns about user conduct. As a personal opinion, neither picture is, to my mind, ideal. DonIago (talk) 06:18, 28 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
As an RfC statement, that is absolutely useless. Please read WP:RFCST before trying again. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:05, 28 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
These IP addresses are becoming very disruptive, changing the photo constantly while the discussion is still ongoing. I have requested that this page become semi-protected while the community still figures out what photo is suitable. Shoot for the Stars (talk) 21:06, 1 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Come on guys, let’s give him a more favorable photo. No one would like this strange half smile being on their wiki page. I suggest this one but any other with a real smile will due. https://www.nickiswift.com/1552904/jason-bateman-unrecognizable-transformation/. ~2026-26600-91 (talk) 02:06, 2 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Not done for now: Please identify a photo file with the necessary licensing; we cannot use anything taken from the web since it is copyrighted by others. LizardJr8 (talk) 03:09, 2 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
can't it just be changed to whatever it was before this one? The current picture is downright trash and I can't eidt it myself - ~2026-27339-11 (talk) 12:57, 5 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
It probably could (I personally agree it is somewhat better), but that has been subject to debate: see above discussion. So there needs to be some consensus on what is a good one, and we don't seem to have that yet. LizardJr8 (talk) 15:22, 5 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
The above discussion seems like it was from the account who changed the image. They're also blocked for this behavior if I'm reading their talk page correctly ~2026-27796-34 (talk) 20:30, 7 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

I am suggesting that File:Jason Bateman 2018.png be used as the image, as in the left side of this diff. The user on the right (Shoot for the Stars) has been permanently banned for uploading bad infobox pictures. This is the one remaining instance of their bad images being on a popular page, which can't be fixed because, prior to them getting banned for this, they managed to get the page semi-protected (with their version). ~2026-31541-58 (talk) 05:32, 28 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Done I agree that the 2018 photo is somewhat better, while not ideal. The earlier discussion seemed to be a WP:1AM situation with the editor who preferred the 2023 photo ending up with an indefinite block. Day Creature (talk) 17:29, 28 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
