While doing some research to write an article about this monastery in the german wikipedia, i found different names being used for the monastery, but not Panagia Hodegetria. Mostly, Theotokou ton hodegon / hodegetrias (Janin, La geographie ecclesiastique..., Paris 1969, p. 199), Hodegon Monastery (Oxford dictionary of byzantium, vol. II, p. 939) or Monastery of the hodegoi (Angelidi / Papamastorakis, "The monastery of the hodegoi (...)", in: M. Vassilaki, Mother of God (...), Milan 2000, P. 373-387) seem to be used. I would be very glad if someone could point me to a source that uses Panagia Hodegetria. --Fl.schmitt (talk) 19:28, 12 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
After some more research, i think that the name "Panagia Hodegetria" is only very rarely used to denote the monastery (for example in Galatariotou, The Making of a Saint: The Life, Times and Sanctification of Neophytos the Recluse, p. 50) itself, and if so, only in modern literature. As far as i can see, all historical sources (Theodorus Lector, Joseph Genesius, the Patria Konstantinupoleos, Theophanes Continuatus, Niketas Choniates, G. Akropolites, G. Pachymeres, Nic. Callistes, and finally the Logos Diegematikos) derive the name from the hodegoi / ton hodegon. Instead of Panagia, Theotokos is used generally. So, i propose to move this article to Hodegon monastery, since
this name is based on sources,
it resembles the naming of other monasteries in the same category,
