Scoville units?

edit

The values quoted in the article (4004-12000 Scoville) sounds really low. This roughly equates to snacking on jalapeños. Is there an off by a factor of 10 somewhere, or is the Scoville scale not reliable in soup-like food?  Preceding unsigned comment added by Taotriad (talkcontribs) 16:14, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

The current method for finding the Scoville units for a food are done using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The amount of capsaicin in the noodles might be low, but the test does not reflect how spicy it "feels" when it is being eaten by someone. Considering I am eating this very brand of noodles as I type this, it does feel hotter than eating a jalapeno. GarethBaloney (talk) 11:55, 11 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
It seems like the citation is to the manufacturer's website, given manufacturers seem to have a tendency to misrepresent scoville heat units on products (Video I found on this topic. ), this seems like it might not provide a reliable source. WhoIs2560 (talk) 08:05, 28 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Name

edit

These are universally knows as "Buldak", and this article should be renamed as "Buldak Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen" or something along those lines. Jpatokal (talk) 12:18, 12 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Samyang's official pages now call this simply "Buldak Ramen", so I've followed suit and moved the page. Jpatokal (talk) 09:50, 13 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Redirect to Buldak Ramen

edit

Hey Hotaste, thanks for creating this article! You seem to have accidentally written a duplicate of the Buldak Ramen article, however, so I have blanked and redirected this article there. Feel free to improve the existing article by merging the content that you've written, which is still accessible in the page history. Let me know if you have any questions! (Courtesy ping for the AfC reviewer RangersRus.) TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 22:58, 13 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Buldak ramen is a category of Buldak brand, just the most famous one in the brand.
Many different categories of product in Buldak Brand is being sold globaly. I think you missed it. Hotaste (talk) 02:29, 14 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I admittedly don't see the difference, as much of the information in the two articles is very similar or the same. Either way, since there is a lot of overlap between the content covered in both articles, they should ideally be merged to avoid a content fork. I have no comment on which article the merged content should eventually go to, but the duplication needs to be addressed. I've tagged the articles accordingly. If anything, I think Buldak Ramen should be merged into this article. Buldak Ramen is a single product line of a wide range of products, see this page . They sell hot sauces, tteokbokki, dumplings, etc. The brand name is Buldak.
That said, this article has a lot of grammar/formatting errors and needs some cleaning. seefooddiet (talk) 16:01, 15 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Buldak Ramen is clearly notable, I don't think any of the spinoff products are. For comparison, Oreo describes the cookie and then mentions various spinoffs (ice cream, cereal, etc) as part of it. Jpatokal (talk) 19:43, 15 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think you're right; maybe a merge into Buldak Ramen is appropriate then. seefooddiet (talk) 20:00, 15 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I agree with a merge here. Including the logo on the page and adding a section about other Buldak products is probably the way to go. Jokullmusic 15:02, 16 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think it would be better to integrate it into the Buldak brand page. A brand concept is broader than a product. Judging from Buldak’s company actions, it seems like they aim to explore a variety of product lines under the brand rather than limiting Buldak to just ramen. Considering this, it seems more appropriate to merge Buldak Ramen into the brand page. Ylouang (talk) 08:49, 2 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Oreo is also a concept of brand because it contains many spinoffs product. but, we don't put Oreo into a single product such as 'Oreo Cakesters'. in the same vein Buldak Ramen is one of the spinoff category of Buldak (brand). so i think it's better Buldak (brand) includes Buldak Ramen. Hotaste (talk) 12:02, 17 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think the difference here is that Buldak Ramen is the primary and original product, and all other Buldak products are significantly-less-notable spinoff products. I think it's more similar to how we don't have a separate "Snickers (brand)" article for Snickers protein powder, Snickers ice cream, etc. I can see an argument for slightly modifying this article and moving it to "Buldak (brand)", though, since it has significantly more information. Jokullmusic 16:02, 17 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
The most common name for their sole notable product, Buldak Ramen, is obviously Buldak Ramen. The brand has no independent notability and should redirect here. Jpatokal (talk) 20:33, 2 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

(undent) Bumping this up. Unless there are objections, I'll proceed with the merge back shortly. Jpatokal (talk) 09:29, 28 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Final call. Jpatokal (talk) 01:00, 31 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
This has now been merged. Jpatokal (talk) 07:12, 2 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I would like to request an update to the external links and product references in this article. == Issue == The current article links to samyangfoods.com for the official website and product references. However, Samyang Foods has launched a dedicated global website for the Buldak brand at https://buldak.com, which serves as the current official source for Buldak product information. == Proposed Changes == 1. Official website: Update from samyangfoods.com/buldak to https://buldak.com 2. Product table references: Update individual product links to the corresponding pages on buldak.com == Additional Information == - The buldak.com website is operated by Samyang Foods and covers 8 regional markets with localized pages (e.g., /us, /kr, /th, /my, etc.) - Many of the current samyangfoods.com product links in the "Types" table are outdated or no longer accessible I am affiliated with the Buldak website, so I am disclosing this per Wikipedia's COI policy and requesting that other editors review and implement these changes if appropriate. Thank you for your consideration. ~2026-28075-2 (talk) 02:02, 14 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I've updated the main link. Please feel free to update the product links to the new one. However, old products should not be deleted; we can add a "Discontinued" section for them. Asamboi (talk) 07:39, 14 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the quick response. Would it be alright if I also update information about which country-specific sites provide product details, along with other comprehensive information? ~2026-27884-6 (talk) 01:11, 15 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the update, but the website matrix is a step too far: we only need one link per product as a reference for its existence.
Also, you should retain the original Korean (hangul) name and its transliteration for those products sold in Korea, and give English glosses if an official translation is not available. Asamboi (talk) 07:51, 15 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
