Climate
editSurely it isn't cold enough to be a continental climate? It would be a cool semi-arid climate with a wide temperature range, but not truly continental.Disintegration1989 (talk) 09:49, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
Library!
editThe Boise Public Library system styles itself as "Library!" & that signage is a local landmark. The mayor himself admits as much (it took him a while to warm up to it, as he initially thought it silly), and there are citations. kencf0618 (talk) 02:23, 9 January 2018 (UTC)
Geothermal
editHow about something about their geothermal heating:
- begun in 1890
- the largest in the nation, as of 2021
That deserves mention. MaynardClark (talk) 18:31, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
Expand history section
editThis article desperately needs someone with a credible knowledge of the history of Boise to expand the “History” section beyond what it is now. While the “Early Years” subsection is commendable and thorough, apparently the only thing that has happened in Idaho’s capital city since 1871 is that non-Idahoans began mispronouncing the name of the city. Ntowle98 (talk) 21:51, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
- Agree. I've begun working on the history section. To date have added a few paragraphs about early growth in the 1860s and 1870s and hope to contribute further. At some point as the content takes shape appropriate headings will need to be devised as well. Ace Winfield (talk) 20:05, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
- I am a historian and a Boise native and I have tried to edit the history section but my edits were deleted. I have never seen a wikipedia page with so many factual inaccuracies. It states that Boise is to the east of the Rockies when it is to the west. It states that the Jacob Astor expedition represented the first entry of white Europeans to the area, which is false. It has so many other factual errors that I am confused as to why they were not removed. I will attempt to edit the site again over the next week but the number of completely untrue statements on this Wikipedia page are stunning. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WestHistorian (talk • contribs) 05:51, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
Urban area
editI've deleted this old 2010 figure from the infobox. U.S. Census has not reported or updated urban populations since then (and has no plans to do so in the future). Thus, it's already 12 years old, any 2010 national ranking is irrelevant in 2022, and it's inaccurately labeled as "2020". All other WP city articles have removed these old urban area stats. Mason.Jones (talk) 17:09, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
- I'd like to clarify that the Census Bureau has published a 2020 version of it's urban and rural areas since this topic was added to Talk. See here It appears this has already been incorporated into the article. Jokojis (talk) 18:23, 2 July 2023 (UTC)
Stop removing alternative pronunciation
editThe article for Boise is not a soapbox for "real locals" to push their pronunciation. Wikipedia is supposed to strive for a neutral point of view that enhances public knowledge. That knowledge includes differences in how Boise is pronounced.Jokojis (talk) 01:25, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is a place where incorrectness gets validated? Why shouldn't we "push" our pronunciation? The people of Arkansas would too if they were being singled out like this. Worcester, MA as well. Mackinac, MI and Spokane, WA too. The name of the Willamette river gets butchered more often than not. All those Wikipedia pages, and many more, include the correct pronunciation only, as decided by those who live there, as is their right. It's a long list. Other people do not get to decide how we pronounce the name of our own city. The name of the city is not up for a vote. Including the wrong pronunciation is neither largesse nor open-mindedness. "Boize" is incorrect. Always has been, always will be. What other incorrect things will Wikipedia include because some people believe them? What other incorrect things will people believe because Wikipedia includes them? The purpose of an encyclopedia it to educate and inform, using facts. Friarbax (talk) 22:14, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
elevation
editWeather Underground is saying here that the elevation of Boise is only 832 feet, and Google's AI seems to agree. I assume this is a mistake on their part? The city is in a flat part of the state, so i dont see how there could be a 2,000-foot slope between one part of the city and another. likewise i dont see how it could be colder in Boise than Lewiston if they have similar elevations. —Soap— 22:08, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
- GNIS says 2743 feet. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:39, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
