Some information from the German side of things would be useful.

Programming remains relatively hermetic and elitist, and is sometimes the subject of popular jokes. Is this really necessary? Sounds quite biased comment. Unnamed

I don't think it's biased, because Arte is known (in France at least) for that (being relatively hermetic and elitist), but it should probably be placed somewhere else in the text.84.102.7.136 23:34, 1 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
It doesn't seem biased to me either. It has the same reputation in Germany, and I think even those who watch it regularly would regard it as such.
Yes, if you compare it to the usual sh*t broadcasted by TF1 or RTL... --90.11.62.16 08:26, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, but both "hermetic" and "elitist" are pejorative, so I've removed them. I think "intellectual" would be better. Opinions? yandman 09:08, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

We can cancel it unless we add that for many other people, Arte is an ambitious initiative to make culture accessible to everybody, to stimulate curiosity and to open our minds. As far as I am concerned, coming from a culturally modest family, I owe to Arte the possibility to enter in a world once reserved to an elite. So the question is: Where is Arte's elitism??? --90.16.168.69 17:23, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Adding onto the comment on "some things from the German side can be useful". Well, that could be easy IF:

  • we know which ARD broadcaster (I'm assuming SWR) co-operates with ZDF and ARTE France, and thus handles German-language programming
  • if it's avaliable on DTT and terrestrial television, as well as on pay-TV sources
  • who operates the transmitters on the German side, whether it be Deutsche Telekom or not.

This would be a start. --User:DanCBJMS via 134.117.168.232 04:22, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

RTBF and Arte, what's the connection?

edit

When I go to www.rtbf.be (RTBF runs the public television channels from Wallonia, Belgium), it lists "Arte-Belgique" under television. On www.arte.tv, there is a clickable RTBF logo at the bottom of the page. So there is a connection, but my French is not so good so it's hard for me to find out. Maybe someone with more knowledge of the French language can take a look at it? W3ird N3rd (talk) 17:29, 23 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

According to French-language Wikipedia, ARTE and RTBF co-own a Belgian channel called ARTE Belgique solely available on cable networks. [1] Culloty82 (talk) 21:31, 24 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Styling of name: ARTE, Arte, arte

edit

I've seen three different stylings for the name: , e.g. in Karambolage. It seems 'arte' is as seen in the logo. How should we use the name? Shenme (talk) 05:41, 20 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Update of ARTE's management

edit

Hi, I’m an affiliated editor employed by ARTE (disclosed on my user page, per WP:PAID and WP:COI). ARTE's management, mentioned in the 4th paragraphe of the article, has evolved. That's why I'd suggest updating the article’s management information. I’m not adding promotional language - just routine factual updates with sources.

Specific text to be updated: In January 2021, Bruno Patino, President of ARTE France, became President of Arte EEIG whilst Peter Weber, Head of Legal Affairs at ZDF, became Vice President. In the same year, the chairmanship of the General Assembly of ARTE EEIG was taken by Tom Buhrow, President of Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) and Chairman of the German association of public broadcasters ARD. Nicolas Seydoux, President of Gaumont, became Vice-Chairman.

Suggestion for updated text: ARTE is governed by its Management Board, chaired by President Heike Hempel and Vice President Bruno Patino. The Management Board reports to the General Assembly, chaired by Jean-Dominique Giuliani (seconded from ARTE France) and Katrin Vernau (seconded from ARTE Deutschland).

Reason for the change: Update of ARTE's management

Update of ARTE's multilingual offer

edit

Hello, I’m an affiliated editor employed by ARTE (disclosed on my user page, per WP:PAID and WP:COI). ARTE's multilingual offer (programmes in French, German, English, Spanish, Polish and Italian) mentioned in the 3rd paragraphe of the article, has evolved. Since summer 2025, ARTE also offers selected programmes in Romanian (arte.tv/ro).

This launch has been covered by several media in the target countries such as the Romania Insider and Moldova1.

I suggest updating the mentioned information in the Wikipedia article. Thank you for considering my suggestion. ATatARTE (talk) 15:53, 8 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
