Syrian?

User:Striver asked me to look at this page. I do not understand in what sense he was Syrian. That he was born in Damascus in 673, and Damascus is now the capital of Syria? Might it not be more accurate to say he was an Umayyad scholar? Tom Harrison ^Talk 13:54, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Discussion of an edit

I removed this line from the last of Dhahabi's teachers: "He said in his last illness while he was in Mecca: "I will die in this illness because the Prophet -- Allah bless and greet him -- promised me that I would die in Mecca."" as it is apparently referring to Dhahabi's teacher and not himself. I say this based upon two points. The first is that Dhahabi died in Damascus as seems apparent in Ibn Hajr's description of his death in al-Durar al-Kaaminah 3/338 where he says that Dhahabi died after returning Egypt. Secondly, Ibn Hajr relates the statement refering to dying in Mecca as originating from Al-Abraquhi, also in al-Durar 1/102-3.Supertouch (talk) 20:54, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

His name is wrongly pronounced.

For people who don't realize this, you don't pronounce the L in Al-Dhahabi, it is written as Al-Dhahabi in Arabic, but it is pronounced Ad-Dhahabi. RussianDewey (talk) 23:59, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
