The sociologist, who was Minister of Defense during the government of former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, from December 2016 to January 2018, also noted that his management behind the emergency support for the El Niño–Southern Oscillation coastal crisis was neat and united all Peruvians in "one force".

In the program "Ampliación de Noticias", Jorge Nieto Montesinos was asked if he will be the presidential candidate of the Party of Good Government in the 2026 elections. "I have been building bridges [with other political groupings] for more than three or four years. We have talked with political leaderships to have common proposals. We are open to dialogue and conversation. I am not announcing any candidacy, there is an effort of the militancy, [but] in due time it will be seen. I have the consensus that the 2026 elections will not be the same. I have always expressed my interest in participating in the next elections, but let's wait for the party to decide".
