Case sensitive

edit

I've made a change stating that both fields are case sensitive. =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:38, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Patrol is excluded from all

edit

editprotected In the current message the 1st sentence should be fixed into something like "all logs except patrol log". Also, imho the 2nd sentence can be removed, since it doesn't mention all possible filters anyway (year and month were added sometime ago). —AlexSm 22:22, 1 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Reworded field names

edit

Field names in MediaWiki core have been reworded so the following two lines may be not needed anymore.

Who performed the action – enter their name without prefix under "User".
The page or user affected by an action – enter the page or user name (prefixed with "User:") under "Title".

Liangent (talk) 21:22, 9 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

I've updated the message to match the current field names. Whether the content of the message itself should change could use more discussion, if nothing else to decide on a new wording. Anomie 15:14, 13 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
I think you could safely remove the part "Who performed the action ... Performer" … — AlexSm 16:24, 13 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

In the current message the 1st sentence should be fixed into something like "all logs except except the patrol, review, deleted page and deleted upload logs." See here. --Elvey (talk) 18:46, 12 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Notify users that deletion tag log moved to page curation log

edit

Related to phab:T313280 and requested by Spinningspark. If no one objects, please add to the bottom of this page (for a duration of around 1 month):

On October 20, 2022, the deletion tag log will be deprecated, and its entries will move to the page curation log.

It's odd that there's no move log entry at the move destination.

edit
Perhaps add: "Note: Moves are only logged to the source page, not the destination."
Or "Note: Moves are only logged under the original title, not the new one." ?

This stems from a conversation at Wikipedia talk:Moving a page#Logging not visible - bug? I'm not sure I agree, because it's already mentioned (if obliquely) at MediaWiki:Movelogpagetextg, and adding info about that here would imply we'd also have to at least mention the history merge log, which was only logged at the source [[until May last year ... which would clutter up this page for no good reason. Also as it says on this pages editnotice, pages like this aren't usually well-watched, so it's better to propose changes like this at a more centralised place like the technical village pump. I don't feel particularly motivated to mention this thread there, but if you want to do so, feel free. Graham87 (talk) 02:13, 8 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Redrose64: Try [[MediaWiki:Movelogpagetext. :-) Graham87 (talk) 01:24, 9 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
I feel like discovering that logs of page moves and merges are hard to find isn't something everyone encountering them should have to figure out for themselves, so avoiding that is a good reason for "cluttering up" the page displaying MediaWiki:Movelogpagetext. Of course it would be even better if they weren't hard to find. RememberOrwell (talk) 05:26, 12 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@RememberOrwell: There is no log of page merges. You need to examine the normal editing history of the two pages, to locate the point in time where the size of one dropped significantly, and where the size of the other increased. Ideally these points will have edit summaries containing text like
Merged content from SOURCEPAGE. See Talk:DESTINATIONPAGE#Merge proposal.
Merged content to DESTINATIONPAGE. See Talk:DESTINATIONPAGE#Merge proposal.
per WP:PROMERGE. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:27, 12 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Redrose64: I think @RememberOrwell: means history merges. Graham87 (talk) 00:31, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Right, that is, the history merges that you had mentioned just above could need mentioning. Discovering that logs of page moves are hard to find isn't something everyone encountering them should have to figure out for themselves or need to remember. That's my main concern. Based on your comment, I presumed the same applies to history merges. RememberOrwell (talk) 04:55, 15 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
