History

edit

The Dreissigacker family has been documented as winegrowers in Bechtheim since the 18th century; the name first appears in records in 1728[1]. Since then, the winery has remained continuously in family ownership.

Jochen Dreissigacker initially completed his vocational training as a tax clerk before undertaking winemaking training at the wineries Keller and Bergdolt.[2] He produced his first own wine in 2001and in 2005, he took over the winery entirely from his parents. Under his leadership, the estate was gradually converted to organic viticulture and, from 2007 onwards, to biodynamic farming. On 5 May 2018, the modern and biophilic cellar was build.

Viticulture

edit

Dreissigacker’s entire winemaking process is designed around sustainability. The vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically, following natural cycles. All wines are moved exclusively by a gravity-flow system to keep intervention to a minimum and to preserve the wines’ character as much as possible on their way into the bottle.

Winemaking

edit

Weingut Dreissigacker primarily produces dry white wines with high ageing potential—especially Riesling. Dreissigacker wines are classified as Gutswein, Ortswein and Lagenwein. In addition, there are occasional special editions. The winery specializes in small-lot winemaking and matures its wines in oak barrels - barriques and tonneaux - as well as in stainless steel tanks.

The focus of Weingut Dreissigacker is on the production of white wine, which accounts for 98% of the total output. The most common grape variety at the estate is Riesling, followed by Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir.

Vineyards - Single Sites

edit

The wine-growing region of Rheinhessen, where Weingut Dreissigacker is located, is Germany’s largest wine region. Rheinhessen is considered one of the country’s coldest wine-growing climates. Weingut Dreissigacker cultivates vines in the following single-vineyard sites:

  • Geyersberg: a south-facing vineyard with weathered limestone soils, particularly well suited to Riesling.
  • Hasensprung: The site is characterized by heavy clay soils. The grapes ripen particularly slowly there, which can result in highly concentrated wines.
  • Rosengarten: The site consists of loess and limestone and is the warmest single site of Weingut Dreissigacker.
  • Aulerde: The soils of the Aulerde site consist predominantly of marl and loess.
  • Kirchspiel: These soils are shaped by limestone fragments and limestone bedrock.
  • Morstein: Limestone and limestone rock produce high minerality in the soils.

Cooperations

edit

Weingut Dreissigacker received significant online attention through a collaboration with Paul Ripke. Together, they market the jointly developed Riesling "Pariesling". In addition, Weingut Dreissigacker produces the wine for Til Schweiger’s line "From grape til wine".
