History

edit

Soundsation formed in Bournemouth during the mid-1990s, a period when progressive house was developing across the UK club scene. The group released early material including "Peace & Joy" (1994) on the Smokin vinyl label. The track subsequently received further releases on FFRR (Pete Tong's label, charting at number 48 in the UK club charts in September 1997.[1]

Their track "Do You Feel It?" was originally released as a white label in limited quantities on SOS Recordings, building a following through DJ circulation before being picked up by Stress Records for a full release featuring remixes by Chris & James and the Dos Deviants.[2] The track appeared on Renaissance – The Mix Collection Part 4, mixed by Dave Seaman.[3]

On the BBC Radio 1 Essential Selection broadcast of 27 December 1996, John Digweed cited "Do You Feel It?" as one of his favourite records of 1996.[4] Pete Tong later referenced the track on the Essential Selection in February 1997, stating it had been Digweed's track of the year.[5] The track also received support from Sasha at his Cream residency in Liverpool.

The group was featured in Future Music magazine Issue 44 (June 1996), where their track "Faded Dream" appeared on the magazine's cover CD, with the article detailing their recording equipment and production process.[6]

In 1998 Soundsation released "New Direction" on SOS Recordings, reflecting the transition in dance music towards trance. The track received support on BBC Radio 1 from Judge Jules in October 1998.[7]
