Shawn Paper is an American film and television editor. He is known for his work on the feature films The Broken Hearts Gallery and Love, Brooklyn, and for editing episodes of television series including Veep, Parks and Recreation, Girls, and What We Do in the Shadows.[1][2][3][4][5][6] Paper is a member of American Cinema Editors (ACE) and has received nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award and an ACE Eddie Award for his work on Veep.[1][6]

Career

edit

Paper has worked as a picture editor on both feature films and television series. His television credits include comedy and comedy‑drama series such as Veep, Parks and Recreation, Girls, and What We Do in the Shadows.[7][8][9] As an editor on the HBO comedy Veep, he received nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award and an American Cinema Editors (ACE) Eddie Award for his work on the episode "Mother".[10][7]

In feature film, Paper edited the romantic comedy The Broken Hearts Gallery, written and directed by Natalie Krinsky and released in 2020.[7][8][9][11] His work on the film has been the subject of several craft interviews and profiles, including an installment of ProVideo Coalition's "Art of the Cut" series, an editor interview in Awards Daily, and a feature in Monkeys Fighting Robots, as well as coverage of the film's editing and post‑production in Variety.[7][8][9][11]

Paper edited the drama Love, Brooklyn, directed by Rachael Holder, which premiered in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.[12][13][14] The film has been discussed in an extended editor interview in Filmmaker magazine and in festival coverage including the Cleveland International Film Festival program notes.[12][14] Love, Brooklyn subsequently received five nominations at the NAACP Image Awards, including Outstanding Independent Motion Picture, and won the award for Outstanding Independent Motion Picture in 2026.[15][16][17] In coverage such as WNYC's All of It, the film's awards recognition has been linked to the work of its creative team, including Paper as editor.[15][12]
