"Rupam Roy" (born 25 February 1977) is an Indian banker and trade union leader. He is the General Secretary of the All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC) and the All India State Bank Officers’ Federation (AISBOF), two of the largest officers’ unions in India.[1][2]
Early life and career
editTrade union leadership
editRoy began ascending union ranks within the SBI Officers’ Association (North Eastern Circle), serving as Central Committee member (2010–12), Secretary of Finance (2013–15), and then as General Secretary from 2015 onwards.[3]
National leadership
editHe advanced to national-level roles, becoming Senior Vice President of both AIBOC and AISBOF. In April 2022, he became Chairman of AISBOF, and in December 2022, he assumed the role of General Secretary of AIBOC.[4] On 1 December 2024, he was unanimously elected General Secretary of AISBOF during an Executive Committee meeting held in Chandigarh.[5] He was re-elected in June 2025 for the 2025-2028 term.[6]
Contributions and advocacy
editRoy played an active role in the 9th Joint Note on wage revision between AIBOC and the Indian Banks’ Association, impacting officers up to the General Manager rank.[7] Under his leadership, AIBOC also endorsed sector-wide campaigns including opposition to privatisation, advocacy for a five-day banking week, and pension-related reforms.[8][9]

editAIBOC is one of the largest officers’ trade union federations for banks in India, representing over 300,000 members and operating under the umbrella of the United Forum of Bank Unions.[10]
