Kim Palchikoff, BA, MA, LMSW, speaker (born October 11, 1968) is an American licensed master social worker and an award-winning non-fiction and features, freelance writer covering mental health issues and lives in Reno, Nevada.

Early life, education and career

As a young child, Palchikoff attended a boarding school in Israel. She returned to the United States to pursue a Bachelor's degree in American Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz. (1990) Palchikoff earned masters’ degrees in both adult education and social work from the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) (2021).

Her career as a writer/researcher began in Moscow, Russia, where she lived from 1990 to 2000. While in Russia, Palchikoff worked as a freelance researcher and writer for NBC, the Moscow Times, and the Los Angeles Times. Later, Palchikoff became a features writer for Newsweek magazine, Moscow Bureau, writing about the Russian circus. As a freelance writer, she focused on the stories of everyday Russians. As a writer, Palchikoff's opinion and feature articles have appeared in regional newspapers in Nevada, as well as in the New York Times.

Palchikoff is currently the host of the Podcast No Stigma Nevada.

On February 9th, 2026, Palchikoff was appointed to the Washoe Regional Behavioral Health Policy Board 2026-2028. Washoe County is the second most populous county in Nevada, and Palchikoff’s position on the board for The Washoe Behavioral Health Region reaches a large number of people living with mental health issues.

As a person living with bipolar disorder, Palchikoff advocates for mental health awareness and regularly gives presentations for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), "the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization". (over 220,000 members) Her most recent presentation was on February 26th, 2026.
