Andrew Ferguson is an Australian Labor local government politician and insurance broker. He has served as a City of Canada Bay councillor since 2017, representing the Australian Labor Party (ALP). He is co-founder and managing director of Ferguson Brown Insurance Brokers (FBIB), a specialist construction and property insurance brokerage based in Sydney.
Early life and education
editFerguson has lived in the City of Canada Bay local government area for more than 35 years, having resided in Rhodes, Concord, Breakfast Point and Mortlake.[1]
He holds a Bachelor of Economics and a Master of Economics, both from the University of Sydney, as well as a Diploma in Urban Studies from Macquarie University.[1]
Insurance career
editFerguson has more than 30 years of experience in the construction industry and over a decade in Australian insurance broking.[2]
He served as managing director of Coverforce, then Australia's largest privately owned insurance broker, for 12 years. Coverforce was subsequently acquired by Steadfast Group.[1][2]
In 2024, Ferguson joined Resilience Insurance as Director of New Business, a role created to support the agency's growth in latent defects insurance for the construction sector. Resilience Insurance managing director Stefan Hicks cited Ferguson's standing within the construction industry as central to the appointment.[3]
In 2025, Ferguson co-founded Ferguson Brown Insurance Brokers (FBIB) with former Coverforce colleague Nathan Brown, who serves as chief executive officer. FBIB is headquartered at Barangaroo, Sydney, and specialises in construction, property and development insurance across lines including contract works, public liability, professional indemnity, latent defects insurance, plant and equipment, and management liability.[4]
Ferguson is listed as a specialist broker on the Resilience Insurance panel for latent defects insurance products.[5]
Political career
editCity of Canada Bay Council

At the 2024 NSW local government elections, held on 14 September 2024, Ferguson stood as the ALP's candidate for Mayor of the City of Canada Bay. He received 38.33 per cent of the primary mayoral vote (18,664 votes), falling short of Liberal candidate and incumbent Mayor Michael Megna, who won with 50.91 per cent on a two-candidate preferred basis. Ferguson missed election as Mayor by 416 votes on the two-candidate preferred count.[7][1] Ferguson was nonetheless re-elected as a councillor, with his election confirmed by the NSW Electoral Commission on 2 October 2024.[8]
