Altasciences is an early‑phase contract research organization (CRO) and contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) incorporated in 1995, headquartered in Laval, Québec, Canada.[2][3][4] The company provides nonclinical safety testing, clinical pharmacology, bioanalysis, formulation, and manufacturing, and analytical services to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies involved in drug development.[5] Altasciences operates nine facilities across Canada and the United States and maintains an office in the United Kingdom.[6]

History

edit

Altasciences originated as Algorithme Pharma, which was founded in 1992 to conduct clinical pharmacology studies. In 2013, following the integration of several research and development organizations, the company adopted the name Altasciences.

1992-2010, Founding and Early Years

edit

Algorithme Pharma was founded in 1992[7] with a clinical site and bioanalytical laboratory in Montréal, Québec. The company initially focused on clinical pharmacology and bioanalytical services for generic drug development. In 1995,[8] it was incorporated as a contract research organization by co-founder Marc Lefebvre.[9] In 2001, the company established its headquarters and bioanalytical laboratory in Laval, Quebec.

2010-2013, Rebranding

edit

In 2010, Chris Perkin was appointed Chief Executive Officer,[10] having previously held leadership positions at Charles River Laboratories, CTBR, and Beecham Pharmaceuticals.

During Perkin’s tenure as Chief Executive Officer, the company expanded its focus beyond generic drug development. In 2013, Algorithme Pharma rebranded as Altasciences Company, Inc. (“Altasciences”) and expanded its service offerings to include CRO and CDMO services.

2013-2023, Expansion

edit

In 2013, Altasciences acquired Vince & Associates, expanding its presence in the United States and adding clinical pharmacology services for investigational drug development programs. In 2018, the company acquired SNBL USA, adding nonclinical research to its scope of services.

During the 2020s, Altasciences completed a series of acquisitions. The acquisition of Alliance Contract Pharma in 2020 added contract manufacturing and analytical services, including formulation, manufacturing, and analytical support for drug products.

2023-Present

edit

During this period, the company expanded operations in Columbia, Missouri.[11] In March 2026, Chris Perkin stepped down as CEO of Altasciences, and was succeeded by Marie-Hélène Raigneau,[12] who joined the company in 2012, and previously held senior leadership roles within the organization, including President in 2025.[13][14]

Acquisitions

edit

Altasciences has acquired and integrated multiple companies:

Facilities and Locations

edit

Clinical pharmacology units are located in Montréal, Quebec; Kansas City, Kansas; and the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
