Truth about Phyllis B. Acosta

edit

Could we have a proper dialogue? Or could we delete this page because of incorrect information? 64.185.99.70 (talk) 05:03, 1 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

The author of the article, the psychologist guy, has not responded to me about the corrections I have made, and has deleted three reference sources initially used that support my edit requests. 64.185.99.70 (talk) 05:05, 1 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
It seems you actually agree with most of what is sourced on the article. I have emailed you about how to proceed with editing here. Psychologist Guy (talk) 17:08, 1 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Wording in the lead has been changed to "American public health researcher best known for her research on inherited metabolic disorders and vegetarian diets" which is accurate per all the sources. Psychologist Guy (talk) 17:15, 1 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

I have been communicating privately with her daughter, IP 64.185.99.70. I have instructed her to list her concerns here so we can all patiently and civilly try to improve the article. (Newbies are confused by this place, so let's not "bite the newbie".) -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 23:44, 1 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

I exchanged some emails with this user a few years ago, she is extremely rude and never thanked me for all the hard work I did creating this article and all the historical research I had to do; in total probably over a day's research I had to do. I blocked her email in the end because she kept sending me rude messages asking me to change things according to her own WP:OR. There was a petty dispute over Acosta being described as an "advocate" or "activist" for vegetarianism which 64.185.99.70 will go to the end of the earth to dispute. Instead we can only use the term "researcher" apparently. Acosta authored numerous articles and books on vegetarianism and attended lectures on the subject so she definitely was an activist. In the end I just gave up on this and gave in to her demands. 64.185.99.70 misunderstands how WP:RS works. She also claimed that Acosta ate chicken and fish in private which I find unlikely. As a historian I am interested in what reliable sources say, not hearsay. 64.185.99.70 never listed a single reliable source. We can only cite what reliable sources say, not personal opinions from family members. Veg Historian (talk) 20:32, 2 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
You and I understand all this, but she doesn't. Our job is to help her understand what's happening and what's allowed while we stay within the PAG governing article content, sourcing, and framing. She has a big COI, and I have explained it to her. We are now Facebook friends. I created this section so she can safely express her views and concerns rather than edit warring. I understand what you are saying but this just looks like a family dispute to me and I am not sure how you are going to compromise with this user because I already helped them out a few years ago out of kindness but this is not strictly policy based and I was forced into that because they kept emailing me. If anything this was actually harassment. I would rather stick to what reliable sources say and not give in to demands from family members to change content on articles. From what I can remember, she disputed this well sourced content Acosta is survived by her children; Aissa Acosta of Cleveland, Tennessee, N Mitzi Acosta Bame and her husband, Mark of Yakima. She sent me an email claiming that N Mitzi Acosta Bame is private information and cannot be mentioned on Wikipedia and I removed it for them. However, if you look here, this is well sourced content to a public obituary and another . There is also other information about Mitzi Acosts Bame in this Adventist publication which is not private information. 64.185.99.70 seems to have fallen out with her other family members over Adventism. 64.185.99.70 claimed that Acosta was an Adventist for only a short period but per our sourcing she was an Adventist for most of her life. I don't know why you keep discussing this with me. Don't get too emotionally involved in this. Yes, disputes are irritating, and newbies cross all kinds of lines because they are clueless about how this place works.
I have no intention of violating any PAG or giving in to any unreasonable demands. Content must be sourced. OR is not allowed. COI editing is strongly discouraged. I'll mentor and warn her when necessary. I've been here since 2003 and have a few clues. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 22:35, 2 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
