Current (2021) controversy

edit

There is currently significant controversy in the online costumery community about Cathy Hay, who is making a replica of the Peacock dress, and in the GLAM community about how the colonial context of the dress's creation should best be presented.

Aside from more information about the dress, its design, creation, wearing and the more-recent museum preservation and exhibition, the article definitely should be expanded by someone who knows more about that and could summarise it well. — OwenBlacker (he/him; Talk; please {{ping}} me in replies) 22:56, 9 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

@OwenBlackerWhilst Hay's project did bring renewed attention to the Peacock Dress, ultimately she did not complete it. She drew significant criticism not just because of the her failure to acknowledge the colonial symbolism of the original dress, but also due of her repeated fundraising attempts with little to show for it. I'm aware of the whole scandal but after 5 years I don't feel it has much relevance here. Trellism (talk) 10:35, 4 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

National Trust pilot 2

I added some [citation needed]'s to the article as part of this National pilot - I have two days left, so don't have time to make the changes myself. Thank you. Lajmmoore (talk) 08:17, 22 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
