The current list has items such as "Napa Valley" (a region in the U.S., Sr. No. 134), Porto (a city in Portugal, Sr. No. 166), "Douro" (a river in Portugal, Sr. No. 167). The list that has been cited as the source in reference 3 also contains Parmesan and Scotch Whiskey, indicating that it featured items whose GI tag was enforced by the Indian government within its territory.

There is an updated version of the list (December 31, 2025) that has been published on the same website as the original source, and it not only has more details (such as the registration date) but features exclusively Indian GI tags (which is the intent of this wiki page) and also presents the regions in an alphabetized order: https://ipindia.gov.in/frontend/pdf/gi/registered/State_wise_Registered_GI_of_India.pdf

The new list has 684 items.
