Rosalind Brown is an American singer and actress known for her work in theater and television. She portrayed blues singer Alberta Hunter in the Off-Off-Broadway production Leaving the Blues, for which she received the AUDELCO Award for Lead Actress in a Play. Her performance was featured in a televised segment on NY1 and received critical coverage from theater publications.
Career
editBrown appeared in the original Broadway production of Footloose, portraying Wendy Jo.[1] She also appeared in the Encores! concert production of Hair at New York City Center.[2]
Brown appeared as Thelma in the Broadway production of One Mo' Time, which was reviewed by major publications including The New York Times.[3] Critics also commented on the production's performers; CurtainUp described her portrayal as having "sass and sizzle", while Talkin' Broadway wrote that the performers "give the songs... their all".[4][5] The production was also featured on The Rosie O'Donnell Show.[6]
In 2020, Brown portrayed Alberta Hunter in Leaving the Blues at The Flea Theater.[7] Her performance received critical attention; New York Theater wrote that she "sings these numbers exquisitely", while Theater Pizzazz noted her "powerful voice".[8][9] Brown was featured in a televised segment on NY1 discussing the production.[10] For her performance, she received the AUDELCO Award for Lead Actress in a Play.[11]
In addition to her theater work, Brown has appeared in television series including Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Orange Is the New Black, Broad City, When They See Us, and Blue Bloods.
