Ali Şahin (born 2 June 1967) is a Turkish taekwondo coach and former heavyweight competitor. He has achieved success as both an athlete and a coach for the Turkish national taekwondo team. He is the brother of Metin Şahin.

Athletic career
editŞahin was born in Konya, Turkey. He competed in the heavyweight division (+83 kg) for Turkey in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He won the bronze medal at the 1986 European Taekwondo Championships in Seefeld, Austria.[1] He won silver at the 1988 European Taekwondo Championships in Ankara,[2] and became European champion at the 1990 European Taekwondo Championships in Aarhus, Denmark.[3] Şahin also won a silver medal at the 1993 World Taekwondo Championships in New York.[4]
Coaching career
editAfter his athletic career, Şahin became the head coach of the Turkish national taekwondo team in 2004.[5] As coach, he led athletes to multiple world championship titles and Olympic medals.[5]
Şahin was named "Coach of the Year" by World Taekwondo in 2018 at the WT Gala in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates. He received the same recognition at the 2019 USA Open in Las Vegas after Turkish athletes earned multiple medals at the event.[6][7][8]
