In 1998 the Blue Bulls rugby union team competed in South Africa's Currie Cup. They won the championship game against Western Province with a score of 24-20.[1][2]

This was the first season the team used the name Blue Bulls.[3] Previously they were known as the Northern Transvaal Rugby Union.[3]
They were captained by Joost van der Westhuizen, who played scrum-half.[4]
