Hi, I'm a member of the Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team, which is looking to identify quality articles in Wikipedia for future publication on CD or paper. We recently began assessing using these criteria, and we are looking for A-Class and good B-Class articles, with no POV or copyright problems. This page is not organized like a regular discussion page, and seems to be discouraging people from commenting or working on the article contemporary art. This project is a good idea because the article is pathetic due to it's lack of structure and detail. The thing is, this project itself also lacks any structure. There is the beginning of a discussion on how to develop the article contemporary art on that page, but having two forums for discussion does not seem to be working. We should focus our energies either here or there and, I mean this positively, I say we should continue the discussion there.

On the contrary, you removed the names of people who had signed up for this and any description of their interest, without presumably consulting them. I reinstated these names. You also added two names with external links to web sites. This is spam linking. If those two people want to be part of it, then you should add their Wiki user name. New Content

Hi, I am a contemporary artist from Australia. Are people interested in national guides to contemporary art scenes? I'd be happy to write one for australia. This could be useful for researchers, artists, writers, or anyone from the general public interested in the contemporary visual arts, in a particular country. It would be fantastic to scan through similar pages for the US, Canada, UK, Germany, Brazil, China, et cetera.

Something like the following (but with more thought going into it):

Australian Contemporary Art
The Australian contemporary art scene is based around a few key exhibition contexts. These are the large state and university galleries, the smaller contemporary art galleries (known as CAOs spaces, or Contemporary Art Organisation spaces), private or commercial galleries, and artist-run initiatives (ARI's). Artist run initiatives can be traditional gallery spaces, or any other project artists generate such as publications, temporary exhibitions, or any other alternative to a fixed gallery system.

Each of these sections could be a link, and further description could be filled in, eg.

Artist Run Initiatives in Australia.
Each state has major artist-run galleries, a few key ones include First Draft, Loose Projects and MOP Projects (Sydney), The Farm (now closed) in Brisbane, KINGS, Clubsprojects, West Space, and many others in Melbourne, Downtown Art Space in Adelaide, and Breadbox in Perth. Other important non-gallery artist initiatives include NUCA (National Uncollectable Artists), the "Artist Funded" project, and the Sydney Ladies Artists Club.

Each of these could have its own history as a link, etc.

Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Barry McGee

I noticed that Barry McGee was added to the list of articles needing attention. Art4Humanists suggested the PBS series Art:21 as a good source, and I remember that McGee was covered in the series. While mentioned in the article's sources, this short episode has a great deal of information on McGee that could be useful in expanding the article. Sub-project Experimental art

I have created a proposal for a new Wikiproject: Experimental art. I’m thinking of this as a possible sub-project of this one. “Experimental art” would focus most of its attention on avant-guard topics, a sub-form of contemporary art. I think there is enough work needed in this category of articles to make two projects helpful. Would this be agreeable with you? By the way, this project is amazing. Art WikiMarathon

I'm helping to organize a group of artists and art historians to contribute contemporary art additions and entries to wikipedia on Jan 26th. We're all setting aside a day to add as much as information as possible and calling it Art WikiMarathon. So far the people involved are all very net savvy and experienced with wikipedia. We'll be doing our best to create quality content that is referenced, links up other pages, etc. and we'll be editing each others work to improve it. Great idea. There's only a handful of dedicated art editors on English wikipedia at the moment. Sometimes it's a struggle (dealing with vandalism, vanity pages, expanding stubs, etc.). Well, your question has remained unanswered for several hours, which kind of speaks for itself! The Project only has 5 or 6 members who are actively editing, and I hope they respond to your question with some ideas. For my part, I think that having a Task Force within the Visual Arts Project would be the way to go, with a scope that is not too ambitious. Don't forget, a lack of response may be due to it being Sunday/the weekend. But I did read Ty's note earlier today and have been thinking about it. Ethico's suggestion sounds reasonable. I've noticed a lack of response on this page and have found myself wondering which Project to add a note to when an issue has risen (posting at both always seemed a bit of a nuisance). I propose to tag it as {{Historical}} and give a soft redirect to WikiProject Visual arts (where editors seem ranging round the whole historical field effortlessly), so that efforts can be focused, and posts aren't left on this page needlessly. Tyrenius (talk) 07:37, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

I've been reluctant to comment, since I'm not signed in to these two projects however they do seem redundant. The project WikiProject Visual arts is working very well, and I agree perhaps these two projects that you mention should be retired. Moving categories

Further to this, I'll begin adding the VisualArts box to all pages in the Contemporary Category that don't have it yet ... I've added the Visual Arts box to all talk pages that linked to the Contemporary Art template. Removal of Project boxes

I propose to remove the existing Contemporary Art boxes from talk pages, since all of the Project's articles have been inherited by Wikipedia:WikiProject Visual arts. They provide no information other than linking to this inactive project. Once this is done, the template may be retired. Help please

I don't know if this is the right place to ask for help, but there has been an issue with a editor at Georges_Yatridès for a few months. User:Arnaugi has denied having a conflict of interest but his edits started showing up right after User:Yatrides was told that he couldn't edit his own article, and Arnaugi's edits have had a strong pro Georges_Yatridès point of view. The need for a specific contemporary art wikiproject

I know this project and page is not maintained, but I think it is really needed. Contemporary art on Wikipedia has specific issues to deal with

• Notability - biographies of living people and acknowledgment of a field/discipline which is underrepresented on Wikipedia (both because it is not jet on Wikipedia and because it has a very small community of wikipedians interested in the topic)
• Copyright - images and content related to living people or artists' work which is not under public domain (images, public art, freedom of panorama, issues related to biographies of living people).
• References/sources - the problem to acknowledge journals, publications and exhibitions which have a major role in determining the notability of artists and art institutions.

There is a need for templates, guidelines and discussion related to contemporary art articles. And there is a need to contribute specifically in this field to Wikipedia.
For former colonies, contemporary art means the cultural production after independence (mainly after the Sixties). In other words, it means to acknowledge sources and protagonists of the world at large (which is actually the majority of the world) and it has a specific importance to provide Wikipedia with relevant international content. --Iopensa (talk) 08:16, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Revising a WikiProject to clean up its pages and making new rules for its articles won't do much to revive it, WikiProjects being a function of the people interested in maintaining them. This page has shown that there is not enough interest to sustain the bureaucracy around running a Project for contemporary art, but the visual art WikiProject has us more or less covered. Even there, it's just a page for discussion around art articles on WP and not an institution that creates the types of things you listed. Though you can try, you'll have more luck making those things you think we need on your own. czar ♔ 14:15, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Leaflet for Wikiproject Contemporary Art at Wikimania 2014

Hi all,

My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.

This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:

• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film

• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.

• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.

• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project.
