Difference between "stub" and "stub-class"?
editWhat's the difference between "stub" and "stub-class"? For example Category:Biology stubs vs. Category:Stub-Class Biology articles. BetsyRogers (talk) 05:05, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
- "Stub-Class" is a talk page template, usually used by wiki projects to prioritize their project tasks. "Stub" is a template used on the article page to encourage expansion by any editor, regardless of their non/membership in a project. Her Pegship (?) 21:59, 7 December 2025 (UTC)
Is this still something that needs to be done??
editI came across the section on Stub sorting/Templates to vet, but I'm not quite understanding the instructions. Is this something where help is still needed? (If so I'd like to help but just need some clarification). BetsyRogers (talk) 08:40, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
- Pegship? Your advice please. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:56, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi folks, sorry for the delay. I went through those lists a while back to be sure the stub types were (a) being used and (b) listed on the stub type lists. I wasn't sure of the instructions either but interpreted them my own way. I don't know if it's worth still pursuing; feel free to do what you think is best. Where and how do I propose the erasure of "stub" status for certain articles?
editThere's one or two articles I'd nominate to have their "stub" status revoked but I don't know the place, or the code to announce such a request. Bloody-pin (talk) 08:21, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Bloody-pin: To put it in the shortest way: WP:BEBOLD. But you didn't say which kind of stub status you are considering - there are two. One is the stub tag at the bottom of the article, for these you simply remove the stub tag, as Widefox (talk · contribs) did here. Then there is the stub status shown on the article's talk page, this is set by the
|class=stubparameter of the{{WikiProject banner shell}}, and for that you would alter it to|class=startor|class=c, perhaps|class=b, according to the descriptions at Template:Grading scheme. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 08:35, 7 April 2026 (UTC)- Oh yeah, I mean the second one. The first one was quite easy to remove. Thank you! Bloody-pin (talk) 09:05, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
Stub hierarchy for the group theory stub template
editThe template for stubs on group theory (a branch of mathematics) is listed under "Stub hierarchy" as a child of the template for stubs on groups (in the sense of music bands). It'd probably be more accurate to list the former as a child of Template:Algebra-stub or Template:Abstract-algebra-stub. On that point, Template:Algebra-stub is a direct child of Template:Stub instead of, say, Template:Math-stub. Should this be looked at? I myself am not too familiar with stub hierarchies. 742a (talk) 13:47, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
Do I need to propose a stub if I want to categorise an existing one?
editHi. I am currently considering splitting Template:Poland-railstation-stub into railstation stubs for every Polish Voivodeship, where it would look something like this:
This article about a Polish railway station in Lower Silesian Voivodeship is a stub. You can help Wikipedia by adding missing information.
Thank you. Fortek67 (talk) 19:09, 24 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Fortek67: Yes, and see here for a recent example. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 21:52, 24 May 2026 (UTC)
