Prakāśānanda 24 April 2026

edit

I would like to draw attention to a draft article on Prakāśānanda, a post-Śaṅkara Advaita Vedānta philosopher, and to request feedback from the perspective of philosophy as a whole.

The figure is of particular interest beyond the history of Indian philosophy narrowly construed. Prakāśānanda is associated with the dṛṣṭi-sṛṣṭi-vāda interpretation, which articulates a form of idealism in which the world is understood as dependent on cognition in a strong sense. This raises systematic issues that are directly comparable to themes in early modern European philosophy, especially in discussions of immaterialism and the status of external reality (George Berkeley).

For this reason, the topic may be relevant to editors interested in:

– comparative philosophy

– the history of idealism

– cross-cultural treatments of metaphysics and epistemology

The draft has been expanded with secondary academic sources (including Surendranath Dasgupta and more recent scholarship), with an effort to clearly attribute doctrines and avoid synthesis.

Any feedback (particularly regarding framing, balance, and integration into broader philosophical contexts) would be very welcome.  Preceding unsigned comment added by Samuel Barbouki (talkcontribs) 15:33, 24 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Re A discussion for a proposed addition to Anthropomorphism for the "IN SCIENCE" section

edit

Ciao fellow Wikiepdia editors- Just a quick note to humbly invite one and all to participate in a discussion regarding the inclusion of new text into the article Anthropomorphism which requires the enlightened insights of experts in the Wikiproject Philosophy. The proposed text includes references to the research conducted by the philosopher Colin Murray Turbayne who traces the historical manner in which dead conceptual metaphors have taken up residence in the form of anthropomorphic language within Isaac Newton's publications on classical mechanics, where they have remained largely unrecognized since their initial publication in the 1700s. Multiple reference citations document Turbayne's extensive research into identifying the evolution of such dead metaphors from ancient times and the manner in which they continue to contribute to obfuscation in the modern discourse on the area of ontology are included below. All are welcome to share your enlightened philosophical wisdom on the proposed text and to offer suggestions for potential improvements. Thanks in advance to all and HAPPY EDITING! Need some folks to watchlist Michel Foucault

edit

I don't know what's going on in pop culture but the people demanding we demonize Foucault or even turn his whole article into a redirect to Foucault's Pendulum or similar silliness has been on the increase. I would suggest that people with an interest in Wikipedia articles about philosophers would be wise to watchlist this if they haven't. Simonm223 (talk) 17:41, 8 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
