Does winning the Sahitya Akademi Award mean an author is notable?
editIs there a consensus on whether winning the Sahitya Akademi Award gives notability? I ask because @R Ashwani Banjan Murmu has created a lot of AI-generated articles about award-winners, and the first is up for AfD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lakshman Chandra Saren. It is obviously AI-generated without human review, so in breach of WP:NOLLM but @BhikhariInformer argued that winning the Sahitya Akademi Award makes the author notable. It would be useful to have consensus on this, but perhaps there has already been a discussion on it and I am just not aware of it? I also just PRODed another AI-generated article about a translator who won a translation award from the Sahitya Akademi, Sobha Nath Beshra. See Wikipedia:WikiProject AI Cleanup/Noticeboard#User:R Ashwani Banjan Murmu for the discussion about the series of AI-generated articles about award winners. Lijil (talk) 05:54, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
- Leaning Yes: Jnanpith Award is the highest and Sahitya Academy Award is the 2nd highest honor for Literature in India. The highest and second highest honors for Literature in any country are significant honors, and probably enough to meet the #1 criterion of WP:ANYBIO. But if the consensus leans towards discarding them, we will have a pile of articles that should be deleted – the ones that exited AFD safely, solely because of winning these. Wikipedia:Notability (ELIT)
editPlease consider assisting with building out Wikipedia:Notability (ELIT) and/or contributing to the conversation regarding this proposed new guideline. -- Rosiestep (talk) 22:28, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you. This should be notability specifically for electronic literature. Electronic literature works use text as well as elements other than text to convey meaning. LoveElectronicLiterature (talk) 03:40, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
Article Request: Gary Zebrun (Author and Journalist
editHi! I am writing to request the creation of a biographical article for author and journalist Gary Zebrun. Please be aware that I am Gary Zebrun, so I have a Conflict of Interest (COI) and will not edit the article myself. I am hoping a volunteer editor from this project might find the subject notable enough to create a draft.
Gary Zebrun is an American fiction writer, poet, and former editor at The Providence Journal. He is a graduate of the Brown Graduate Writing Program and a recipient of fellowships from Yaddo, MacDowell, and Bread Loaf. He has published three novels: Someone You Know (2004), Only the Lonely (2008), and Hart Island (2024), the latter published by the University of Wisconsin Press. His work has been recognized by the Ferro-Grumley Award and the Lambda Literary Awards.
I have gathered independent, secondary sources below to help establish his encyclopedic notability:

- Kirkus Reviews review of Only the Lonely (2008): https://kirkusreviews.com
- Buffalo Spree Magazine features and archives on his regional background and literature: https://buffalospree.com
- Ocean State Review feature and review of Hart Island (2024): https://oceanstatereview.org
Literary Awards & Fellowships (Verification):
- Finalist/nominee recognition data for the Ferro-Grumley Award Joseph Hansen Award, Publishing Triangle and Lambda Literary Award for Mystery.
- Verification of residency fellowships at the MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, and Bread Loaf Writers' Conference.
Selected Journalism & Essays:
- Essays and opinion pieces published in The New York Times (such as "The Russian Winters of Lackawanna, NY", 1982).
- Literary contributions to The Gay & Lesbian Review (https://glreview.org) and The Common https://www.thecommononline.org/tag/Gary-Zebrun/.
Thank you for your time. I so admire Wikipedia and the work you all do. ~~ Gary Zebrun (talk) 19:37, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- There is no indication that you pass the criteria at WP:NWRITER or WP:GNG? Theroadislong (talk) 20:08, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
