Fictional characters identified by number

edit

There are many fictional characters who are given a number, for various reasons (see below). I'm thinking of starting a page List of fictional characters identified by number. This would not include ordinals such as Quintus, Jiro (given name), etc., descriptive phrases such as The Third Man, counts of multiple individuals such as Seven Dwarfs, The Three (Buffy), uniform numbers of characters unless that's their common nickname, etc. As usual, the number needs to be mentioned in the relevant Wikipedia article to indicate notability. So, for example, the nickname "Number 4" for David Briggs in The Detectives is not mentioned in the article, so shouldn't be listed.

Not really the best idea, because other than it basically being a set-index, it's not a defining trait and not really covered by reception encompassing the group. It's why we don't have "List of characters named after a color".--Kung Fu Man (talk) 21:44, 24 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
I agree it's not a defining trait, which is why I didn't suggest it as a category, but being a defining trait doesn't seem to be mentioned in Wikipedia:Stand-alone lists, and it doesn't seem to work for, say, the List of common misconceptions about arts and culture: is turkey meat "defined by" the misconception that it causes drowsiness? Are the words of art in List of depictions of urine in art defined by depicting urination? Some are, like the Manneken Pis in Brussels, but is Venus and Cupid defined by depicting urination?
Not sure what you mean by "reception"; are you alluding to "has been discussed as a group or set by independent reliable sources" criterion?
More generally, maybe you can help me understand Lists and related types of articles, because I'm finding Wikipedia:Stand-alone lists rather confusing.
For example, why do we have all three of Index of prostitute articles, Category:Prostitutes, and List of prostitutes and courtesans?
Thanks, --Macrakis (talk) 22:32, 25 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Proposed addition of Mizuki Akiyama to non-binary character page

edit

There is currently a discussion on whether to add Mizuki Akiyama, a character in the video game Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage, to the List of fictional non-binary characters (video games section). One IP user has provided sources supporting this addition, but two other editors have disagreed with this assertion. As such, discussion participation here would be welcome. Thanks.
