Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2026 July 3

Propose merging {{Tfm notice}} and {{Tfr notice}} into {{Tfd notice}} and {{Template for merging}} into {{Template for discussion}}.

TfD uses 3 different talkpage notice templates based on the proposal: {{Tfd notice}} for general "for discussion", {{Tfm notice}} for merging, and {{Tfr notice}} for renaming. For consistency with similar templates, and for ease of maintenance down the line, they should be merged into one like what has been done at {{Afd notice}}. See {{Afd notice/testcases}} for how a similar arrangement works. The {{Tfm notice}} and {{Tfr notice}} would become wrappers of {{Tfd notice}} in the same way that {{Merge notice}} is a wrapper for {{Afd notice}}. I've already made a small attempt at this in this diff, which changed the wording of the header and the icon based on the nomination.

The same applies to {{Template for merging}} and {{Template for discussion}}, there's no need to keep two duplicate templates: the former should become a wrapper of the latter. See {{Article for deletion/dated/testcases}} for how it can look: instead of having 4 different templates at AfD, we simply have one which changes with a parameter. Much easier to maintain. Also, "Template for merging" doesn't really exist, there's only "templates for discussion". That would be like calling AfD "Articles for draftification" based on the nomination. There is no consensus to combine the Aquatic disciplines into one template. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 14:36, 3 July 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Delete even though I'm in favor of combining, as there was slight consensus against it. The creator has not responded to a talk page message informing them of this. IAWW (talk) 14:51, 3 July 2026 (UTC)[reply]
All other Summer Olympic sports have one template which contains all of their disciplines, even baseball/softball which used to be separate sports. I think it would be good for aquatics to be consistent with the others as there doesn't seem to be a proper reason for it to be the exception given none of the governing bodies treat it as such. It could also help people who may not be aware of the official status of these disciplines (due to Wikipedia's inconsistent approach to categorising only these disciplines) to understand more about how the sport is governed/seen by the organisers. You do not have consensus for this. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 22:34, 3 July 2026 (UTC)[reply]
How would consensus be gained? FlocculentAltaria (talk) 04:44, 4 July 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Mainly just want to make sure I'm not missing something here... Is there some reason that {{Convert}} cannot be used? Guessing this is just a relic? Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 04:05, 3 July 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Replace and delete Exactly the same functionality. {{convert}} converts meters to feet and vice versa by default if no second unit is specified. For example, {{convert|2047|ft}} gives 2,047 feet (624 m) and {{convert|624|m}} gives 624 metres (2,047 ft). –LaundryPizza03 (d) 05:01, 3 July 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Question: Where exactly is this being called? I cannot figure it out. It's being transcluded on 227 pages, like Grafton Notch, but I don't see it in the code at Template:Infobox mountain pass. — hike395 (talk) 08:43, 3 July 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Hike395: That's my fault. I JUST removed it from {{Infobox mountain pass}} yesterday. I assumed it was still being used in {{Infobox mountain}} (dumb assumption). I guess this can actually be WP:T5ed at this point. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:01, 3 July 2026 (UTC)[reply]
