This is an essay on the WP:BOLD and WP:IAR guidelines. It contains the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors. This page is not an encyclopedia article or a Wikipedia policy, as it has not been reviewed by the community. |
| This page in a nutshell: As Lana Del Rey once said: "'cause you and I, we were born to die" |
We were born to die. We waste so much time worrying about what other editors will think, but think about what you are adding to Wikipedia.
Do you have any doubts?
editWhen you edit and have any doubt about what you are about to do, consider this: Is it valid? If it is not, do it. If it is valid, consider the value to the project. Remember that WP:IAR is a rule.
As Lana Del Rey once said; “Oh, my heart it breaks every step that I take / But I'm hoping that the gates, they'll tell me that you're mine." Even if you have guilt about what you are about to do, remember— we were all born to die. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to die before seeing the truth on Wikipedia. I don’t want to die before seeing every little detail spoken by or about Ghislaine Maxwell on Wikipedia. I don’t want to die before every related controversy has Ghislaine’s side of the story. I certainly don’t want to die before Wikipedia becomes a site where all perspectives are balanced.
When it gets tough
editRemember, Lana once said; “Don't make me sad, don't make me cry / Sometimes love is not enough /And the road gets tough, I don't know why”
Sometimes, all the editors are against you. Sometimes even a policy may be. That’s ok. Push through anyways. Just edit. Discuss on talk pages. Do it until you are satisfied with the way Wikipedia is.
Edit on the wild side
editWikipedia is a place anyone can edit on for any reason. As long as you are not vandalizing or being disruptive, add it! It might be controversial, but there are people who might agree with you. Think about it— what do you value more; what other editors think, or the future of Wikipedia? As Lana Del Ray once said, “Come and take a walk on the wild side / Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain / You like your girls insane, so (louder)”. Wikipedia likes its editors insane. If contributors just blindly followed what was popular, the encyclopedia would not exist.
What’s the takeaway?
editWe were born to die. And before you die, see to it that Wikipedia becomes the best encyclopedia possible.
