During planning, the station was known as "Florence/Hindry", with local feedback for a final name being varied. However, Metro would instead adopt the name "Westchester" in July 2015 in response to staff recommendation.[4] However, Metro would later add "/Veterans" to the name in response to a joint amending motion introduced by then-Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas and Inglewood mayor James T. Butts Jr. to reference the U.S.VETS Inglewood campus, located roughly a 12 mile (0.80 km) to the south.[5]

The station opened on October 7, 2022.[1] Metro held a ceremonial ribbon cutting for the station on September 17, 2022.[6]

The station incorporates artwork by the artist Geoff McFetridge.[7] Hindry station was funded and fully incorporated into the project in May 2013 after significant community support.[8]
