Information icon Hello, I'm CNMall41. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Palm Beach Tan have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. CNMall41 (talk) 20:51, 6 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi CNMall41, could you clarify what part of it is promotional? What I have added is facts and just describes offerings and past partnerships. ~2026-38490-44 (talk) 21:30, 7 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

I added my changes back in, because I believe most of it to be non-promotional and more so statements of facts. Would you mind letting me know what specifically you think needs to be removed, and I can edit that specific part as opposed to you removing all of my work completely? The things that I added are: a list of services, a description of past partnerships, and more info on the founding date. I'm not sure how any of those can be seen as "soapboxing," so if you wouldn't mind clarifying, I would be more than happy to fix the specific part, as opposed to you removing all of my work. Thanks. ~2026-38490-44 (talk) 13:48, 8 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi! I'm A Random Hylian. I just took a look at your edits (I came across this discussion doing Recent Changes Patrol, and it appears that your edits were removed because you linked directly to the company's website, which can be seen as promotional. Additionally, that is a primary source, and for the vast majority of references, we use secondary sources, as they usually do some sort of check to ensure that their sources are reliable. That is likely why your edits were reverted, and I suggest that if you have another issue, you bring it up on the article's talk page, that way there can be a bigger discussion with more consensus. Thank you for providing specific changes for me, I'll get to work on that, thanks. ~2026-38490-44 (talk) 20:36, 8 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi A Random Hylian I went in and removed the links to the company website and replaced them with secondary sources. Does this work? Thank you! ~2026-38490-44 (talk) 20:55, 8 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Advertising your company's services is promotional. Yue🌙 (talk) 07:18, 9 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest

edit

Information icon Hello, ~2026-38490-44. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Palm Beach Tan, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation for any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

See the FAQ for article subjects for more information.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Yue🌙 (talk) 07:17, 9 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

A Random Hylian, Yue🌙, CNMall41, Thank you all for sharing your knowledge and informing me of these rules and regulations. I have never edited, worked on, or used Wikipedia before, and I had no clue of the COI, promotional, etc., rules and I apologize for being unaware. While you all have been very thorough with me, I fear I am out of my depth and now regret trying to update an out-of-date page. This will definitely be my first (and last) time ever trying to do anything on Wikipedia. A piece of advice, next time, try to be more welcoming to new people doing their best to join a community and participate. This might be the reason this website is not as prevalent anymore, since users tend to be less than welcoming to newcomers trying their best.
Thanks. ~2026-38490-44 (talk) 14:44, 9 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Don't worry about being out of your depth, we all felt that way! And especially don't regret updating the page. I know I've made a couple mistakes like that, but once you get used to the processes, it's not that hard to understand. I do hope you stay, but if you don't, then I understand that too. If you need any help with anything else, then feel free to ask over at the Teahouse. I hope to see you on wiki again soon! signed, A Random Hylian (Read!) (What'd I do?)
