Can't get it to work

edit

This is such a great idea this script. Thanks for investing the time in writing this. I'm trying to get it to work for my ME/CFS FAC, but I seem to be doing something wrong, as it doesn't show any changes are made.

  • I installed the script
  • I use the source editor (it can't find the editor area in the VE; it does give me an error message)
  • I click on Tools and run the script (in either options, which I don't quite understand.)
  • No changes show up. If I make a non-related change first to the article, changes still don't show up when clicking on either formatting option.
  • I've tried it in Firefox and Chrome
  • I've tried it with V22 and old vector.
  • I've also tried it on a random other article (grid energy storage).

Am I doing something wrong? —Femke 🐦 (talk) 20:09, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Got it to work on my alt account, so it may have to do with interactions with other scripts? Femke (alt) (talk) 19:11, 25 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'm a bit busy and tbh I'm done trying to tinker to fix some bugs. Perhaps as you mentioned, it might have to do with interactions with other scripts.--ZKang123 (talk) 06:40, 27 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'm having the same issue. My scripts as of now are at Special:PermaLink/1246890746. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 18:05, 21 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Looks like recognition of ordinals need to be added to the script. Right now it converts 6th to 6Th. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 18:32, 21 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Feature request

edit

I would like these enhancements:

  1. An option to operate only on selected text
  2. Support more more types of conversion, to include
    1. Upper
    2. Lower
    3. Sentence
    4. Title

Does the current script correctly handle accented letters? -- Shmuel (Seymour J.) Metz Username:Chatul (talk) 12:07, 16 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Error: Sidebar section not found!

edit

Whenever I click the article's history or my contribs, the script says "Error: Sidebar section not found!". I have no idea how to fix this problem.. Camilasdandelions (✉️) 09:57, 25 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Not working?

edit

I'm trying to get source titles uniform in Nile article. I want all Title Case. E.g. I expect title "Eskom invests in Kiira dam water controllers" to get most words capitalized. I did these steps:

  1. installed the tool
  2. edited Nile article
  3. In the edit window's tools menu: I observed three new actions regarding caps. I tried all three choices, one at at time. All three had the following behavior:
  4. A white box popped up with a large block of WP markup. The text in the window says "Original ..."; the text is the original Nile article markup; I do not see any changes in the window (that is: some titles still have wrong capitalization)
  5. I clicked the blue "Apply" button at bottom of the white Preview window anyway
  6. In the edit page now: I click the "Show changes" button, and it shows "No differences".

What am I doing wrong? Does the tool only work for raw cites within <ref> brackets? The Nile article does not use <ref> brackets; instead it uses template:sfn citations that refer to sources in the References section (which all use template:cite). If the tool only works on cites within <ref> brackets, can the tool be enhanced to also work on source titles within the Reference section (stored using template:cite)? If I'm not explaining it clearly, the Nile article illustrates the situation. Noleander (talk) 23:05, 12 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Noleander: Yeah at the moment it mainly works for <ref> brackets. Tbh I'm not an expert in javascript, and made this with Robert's help and ChatGPT. However, I will continue refining it, since it's the Lunar New Year weekend and I might have time to look into this.--ZKang123 (talk · contribs) 23:53, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Alright, thanks for looking into it. FYI, both <ref> brackets and the sfn cites use the same "title" attibute as in:
| title = some source title
so if the tool could act on strings following the "title=" in locations within the wiki markup that are either:
  1. Ref brackets in body text like this: <ref> {{cite xxxx .... |title = some source title ... }} </ref> or
  2. sfn citations down in the References section like this: {{cite xxxx .... |title = some source title ... }}
that would be great! Noleander (talk) 00:13, 14 February 2026 (UTC)iki> ; orReply
@Noleander: I think I've fixed the issues and did some tests. You are free to try it out, but sometimes it might still be buggy.--ZKang123 (talk · contribs) 00:48, 14 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi ZKang123. I also experienced an issue. When I chose one of the options, it capitalized the lowercase letters and made the uppercase letters lowercase. 🍕BP!🍕 (🔔) 12:44, 14 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Boneless Pizza!: May I know which option? (to be honest, I did try to tinker with the options but they don't always seem to work properly).--ZKang123 (talk · contribs) 06:07, 15 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
All except the "All caps" option. 🍕BP!🍕 (🔔) 06:09, 15 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Can't find it.

edit

After installing it I...

  • Went to the source editor for great white shark
  • Clicked on my tools
  • Don't see it there.

I installed a couple of weeks ago: it shows up as 6 or 7 new action items in the Tools menu; they all begin with the words "Convert caps...". Your post indicates you were already in the Edit page, which is the correct place to run the tool. You can look in your Special tools page at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MyPage/common.js and verify that the ZKang tool is listed in there. Noleander (talk) 20:15, 15 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Its listed, but I still don't see it at tools. LittleJerry (talk) 20:44, 15 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
