I have reverted your edit of the Caledonian Canal article, where you assumed that the John Knox mentioned was the theologian who died in 1572. The statement was referenced to Lindsay (1968) p.142. There are 29 people called John Knox mentioned on John Knox (disambiguation), of whom 26 have articles in Wikipedia. A quick check of those who were alive in 1785 reveals that it was John Knox (philanthropist) who expounded the benefits of the canal to relieving distress in the Highlands, and I have now wikilinked the John Knox in the article to him.
